Even though its very unlikely that something like this will be made, I would like to propose an alternative to the current system we have to play with. At least to see if people would like this or not, as I had it stuck in my head for months by now.
So as we all know BR system isn’t the most accurate when it comes to representing which gear and vehicles were historically used in certain time periods and campaigns, so I came up with a system that may could solve the historical issues in Enlisted.
So my solution would be:
Each nation have armies for each BR (presets would be kept for different lineups for each BR)
Those armies are made of squads that were present originally before the merge
Said squads would be able to use only the weapons/vehicles that were originally used in campaigns (no Volkssturm weapons outside Berlin, no Tigers in Stalingrad) (Its just the old balance system without the need of separating the playerbase with separate campaigns)
Squads that don’t fight in same campaings, can share same single upgrade tree (like Assaulter II squad for Pacific can have same tree as Assaulter II in Tunisia, and gain squad exp together)
While many things would be locked for wide campaign use, many weapons could be shared (like if you equip the US soldier with a springfield in BR2 Normandy, you could use the exact same springfield for a BR2 Tunisia for example)
Weapons/soldiers/squads/vehicles/gear would be shared between the BRs in same way. Upon switching a BR all of the things you used somewhere else would be avaiable again. So if you have some certain soldiers you really like, you could use them in other BRs as well without any problem
Of course it also would have some negatives to it:
It would take A LOT of time to complete managing and gearing up the squads this way
You wouldn’t be able to really use every event/premium/bp stuff outside campaigns they really belong to. So if a squad have a weapon that wasn’t used outside one certain campaign like Liu rifle, it would just stay where it belongs.
But if you bought Moroccans for example, you would be able to use their squad if they would switch nationalities (like they could become Far East French Expeditionary Forces in Pacific for example) as the Berthier rifle could easily be seen in many places during WW2. (on second thought Its bit unfair that some squads can be in more campaigns than another, I know, but maybe weapons could be switched to something similar in another campaings together with other things perhaps? I have no idea what to do with premium vehicles though)
Without prefered maps system, you would be forced to play on all avaiable maps on all BRs
While upgrade trees would be shared between the squads, you would probably have to level up soldiers separately, as I cant imagine different soldiers getting same experience, it seems impossible to do considering squads will consist of different dudes (yes BP soldiers will stay in campaigns where they belong as well, no John Basilone outside Pacific.
Thats all I could think of for now, I will try editing it further if I may have forgot writing about something cruical to the game, or you simply dont fully understand what I said somewhere. But lets talk about it, there is still a room for improvement, the above is what Enlisted could be if it would be up to me how I would like to have it.
Yay Finally we are getting sweet 20rd Beretta vs PPSh back.
But I hope it will be consistent and we also remove stuff like Panzer III B, ZH, Madsen or G41 from Moscow altogether.
So back to buying and upgrading 100 of soldiers for F2P again, yay.
Noice way to ruin premium squads even more. I am sure people want to pay for squads they might not even be able to use at all. Same applies to event squads.
Black facing is noice and the squad is still wrong.
it will never be fully balanced this way, impossible to make things 1:1 when Japan had paper armored tanks and Americans not. Yet Japan can be still seen winning
Yes, sadly I dont know how it could be avoided
They could keep on using it if prefered maps would be a thing, but there could be a solution made with them switching things for something else
In later edits you may not noticed, I mentioned that weapons could be switched to something of similar stats for another campaign
I thought something like this was going to happen when the Merge was first mentioned.
E.g. we keep the existing research trees, but there’s a preset for early/mid/late war.
So for example late war Berlin/Normandy preset can have low BR PPS/Mosin/MP-40/M1 Carbine but cannot equip stuff that absolutely wasn’t there like T-28, BT-7, Hs 123 or Seagull plane.
So essentially e.g. Germany could have Early war BR2 preset with Pz IV F1, MP-40, K98 and play on Moscow, Stalingrad, Rzhev and Tunisia.
As well as a Late war BR2 preset with VG-2, MP-3008, Puma, Pz III N and play on Berlin, Normandy and Ardennes.
Or, at the very least, if my BR2 lineup is full of Italian squads, soldiers, weapons and vehicles, I should have higher chances to 1941 Tunisia and not 1944 Ardennes.
There is a huge difference between SMGs where one does 0.2 more dmg and one SMG having 3,5x bigger magazine.
Which does not mean you need to do 1:5.
And usually you balance it out by giving sides different strenghts, which was not a thing in most campaigns beyond Normandy and maybe Berlin.
Well, we saw how that worked in Moscow and the result was a time-travel tank.
Does not change the fact that Arabs/ Maghrebs run around in Pacific and what not.
And the gun switch is stupid because people bought the gun to play the gun.
and most of the panzer IIIs passed 1943 were replaced with panzer IVs, Stugs, Panthers and Tigers ( when available ).
( that is, for campaigns within enlisted as far as it goes. )
but i’m getting beside the point.
as it goes for the main thread…
can’t say much beside… it’s one of those threads again
it’s getting ridicules at this point.
just like in toxic relations ships, it’s time to move on.
you can’t be stuck living in the past and on false notions.
I am confused. Then did you came with guns? Because I meant the squad itself, the icon, the name, the text for it. This would not change and if it does, then why do we have different squads anyways?
coming from someone who likes captured weapons, it cannot be the final answer all the time because at some point it looks stupid if everyone has MP717(r), especially if you consider that the Germans did not capture a lot of PPSh in 1941, since most PPShs were made in 1942 and 1943.
Also, this still does not solve the tank issue unless you also allow captured tanks en mas which again makes the game look funny.
To be honest the whole post is just to answer a question “Could the merge be done better? If yes, how?” and thats my how.
I did expected some negative replies speaking of the faults of such system, hence I did wrote about a bunch of negatives that first came into my mind. But it is something I wanted to hear, as to be honest I didnt managed to get that far back in the days of campaigns and wasnt really minding how hard those were.
I still remember grinding for 3 days just to get one stupid weapon, yes it wasnt perfect. But thing I miss the most is just that each map felt different in opposition to the total chaos we have now, and I was enjoying every second of it.
I remember how I was having a nice chill time fighting with bolties on Stalingrad, or how was I trying to stop seemingly unbeatable waves of enemies in Tunisia, or the total carnage in Berlin. Now everything just feels the same, and I dont like being forced to use the best gear avaiable just not to play more games to finish those tasks and events…
And Im honestly not that hardcore when it comes to HA, I decided to play this game mainly because of gold order weapons that were straight from Ian McCollum videos but I find myself not enjoying it as much as before now. But regardless, I only wanted to hear if Enlisted made in a way like I described would be fun to play or not, as well, Im not enjoying it as much nowadays
what about new campaigns? specifically ardennes, rzhev and bhurma(and whatever new frontline will be)
how do you balance OP weapons that were in those campaigns without introducing time traveling or prototype weapons? cause old campaigns werent balanced without those. e.g. in moscow you had 20 round beretta vs drum pps41, or there were KV1 and KV2 in actual battle of moscow, but germans at best had short 75mm pz3 and pz4.
For a little better Historical accuracy, which could be kept by making it cosmetic like in that case.
In my idea the things that have not much to do with gameplay could just be separated in ways of appearance, this includes the icon, name, names, uniforms… But they all would be linked to the same “core” that is squad type and its tech tree. Imagine it in a way just as soldier cosmetics are tied to campaigns currently, this could be expanded to icons and texts.
Like I said, Assaulter II in Normandy would represent the US army and Assaulter II in Pacific would represent the Marines. It still would be the same squad that is just forced to use different set of weapons for each map they will be spawned it.
And the only problem I have there are the soldiers, as I cant come up with the idea that would allow them to level together while having different names, because if they could be all the same except for names and look variants, whats with the unique soldiers that are based of real people? There is a room for some other ideas.
In case of Premium squads, they could just have their counterparts made avaiable for other campaigns, one squad, but with different voice/uniform/face/names/icon. the gun idea could be cosmetic as well and they could keep their stats but idk if switching to something similar wouldnt be okay as well.
Yeah you are right, it is very problematic and I have no ideas for an alternative honestly
They would just get the same treatment as old campaigns, one would have to make an accurate list of proper gear that could be used there for both nations and then apply it to the game
Dont know yet, some things could be included as captured weapons but not to the big extent as it just would look weird. Current Enlisted isnt too balanced as well when it comes to BR vehicles and weapons so maybe two factions fighting each other could have different advantages and disadvantages simply. Perhaps engineers could get some good field guns to build to counter better tanks, I dont know
i am talking about squads, models and uniforms for those campaigns. also old campaigns didnt have accurate list of proper gear, not to mention new ones.
why bother with HA, when most of the time you will have mirror copy weapons/vehicles cause campaigns were unbalanced. allied tiger in tunisia, german KV1 and KV2 in moscow, soviet KT in berlin, german P47 in normandy.
we would also need to remove half tech tree and GO weapons cause they were either prototype or were never used in most of the campaigns. remove m2 carbine from everywhere except pacific, remove fedorov cause it wasnt used anywhere except in winter war, remove pershing and super pershing, t20, m1944 hyde from game cause they werent used anywhere, etc.
it is balanced much better than previous campaigns and your suggestion. btw provide example of current imbalance. only thing currently “imbalanced” is probably p47, KT vs soviets and soviet body armor
