I think many players, including myself, would really appreciate the ability to use unique event squads (whether earned through grinding events or won via boxes), in the premium squad slot. These squads often take some time and effort to obtain, and it would be great to showcase and enjoy them more freely without being limited by the current slot restrictions.

No, they add to it I’d say. Engineers are really useful, and a well timed artillery strike can come in clutch. I run two radio squads just so that I always have a backup, in case I need a artillery strike ASAP.
some of the squads are too op, so I don’t know how to use five level 5 engineers
Engineers with pump-action shotguns double as assaulters, and if you got the Assault Engineers you can equip those with assault-rifles. And telling AI engineers to continue building rally-points as you continue forward is a real time saver. If I could only ever run one squad it would be engineers, hands down, every faction, every time, all BRs.

That was my initial idea but DF ignored it as they only care about paying players.
I would agree, but there is no money to be made by DF by allowing us to use event squads in premium slots, DF would prefer you just bought the slot or buy another premium squad. 
Me, I bit the bullet and bought additional slots for Germans, Soviets and Allies, so now I get nine total slots and don’t have to pay for premium anymore. I use at least one premium squad at every level anyway, so this works for me.
