Although it has been some time, rally points and ammo boxes were changed to let you build them even after hitting your limit, deleting the oldest placement immediately after placing a new build blueprint. This has been a great mechanic allowing for a smoother and faster gameplay experience.
However, I feel like it can be expanded to apply to all buildings with the following penalty:
All other structures incur a 2x resource penalty when building items passed your limit.
Penalty Values (Rallies & Ammo remaining unchanged)
Barbed wire: 1 → 2
Sand Bags: 1 → 2
Hedgehogs: 2 → 4
AT Gun: 8 → 16
AA Gun: 6 → 12
LMG: 10 → 20
HMG: 12 → 24
Notes:
This does not affect the current resource values, it only applies if you don’t deconstruct what you want to place down again.
Since it scales hardest against offensive structures, it still leaves an incentive to deconstruct before moving forward. The HMGs can not even be replaced unless you have an engineer with increased building materials for example.
This would be better than the current system, so players don’t have to run to the opposite way of the objective just to retrieve buildings, while also having a penalty for being lazy and not getting it. Thoughts?
And more penality after per limit or per 1/2 limit.
I mean… After 12 hedgehogs it will cost 8… Or after 9 hedgehogs it will cost 8 and after 12 it will cost 16.
But penality limit is 20 or 28.
Why it needs? Well… Because without it players will be able easly build 100 sandbags/hedgehogs.
Ahh I see what you mean. I am not recommending removing the limit however, just recommending to add the ability to replace buildings when needed, at a cost.
So a player would still only be able to maintain 10 sandbags still, it would just delete the oldest sandbag like with how ammo boxes and rallies work currently.
Currently time rally point and ammo box still got 1/2 engineer resources that they cost if you build it after limit.
And if you didn’t destroyed it “by hand”.
While true, the main reason is just so you aren’t in a position where you are unable to use that placement at all. For example, on certain maps the grey zone behind you doesn’t close in nearly as fast as it should, so your constructions are pretty much lost until it finally catches up or unless you run all the way back, which most people don’t (and I don’t blame them xD )
I think you should be able to without the penalty in this regard. In addition, have the minimap visibly show which one will be destroyed if you place the next one. This way you don’t accidentally build more than you should.
