Hello, comrades, and good afternoon everyone. I decided to investigate such topic as the so-called “Fyodorov sniper automat”, that is a telescopic sight for Fyodorov automat. I have done some work and collected all known information about sniper FA. Of course, it’s not much, but what I have is what I have.
I would love to see the Fyodorov sniper automat, such an interesting weapon in our game in TECH TREE. Specifically in the tech tree, not the event, not the premium, not the Battle Pass.
Therefore I declare the beginning of the research about Fedorov sniper automat open.
I hope you’ll be interested in reading this.
On the Internet sometimes you can find such images.
You say it looks like computer graphics. Yes, because it is computer graphics. We have no reliable photos of the Fedorov Automat with a telescopic sight.
But it’s not a problem, remember the Hino-Komuro rifle, so it’s the same situation, we have only modern models from reconstructors, and how reliable they are is questionable, even very questionable
Anyway, I decided to investigate the topic further and here is the information I managed to find.
One of the sources of information is the Kalashnikov Journal and its article “A new type of weapon”
There we can find references to the fact that a special automatic company (“The Special Automatic Company” , also called ‘Major General Fedorov’s Automatic Company’, was a unit of the Russian Tsarist army created for combat testing of submachine guns and automatic rifles) was given, among other things, telescopic sights for armament
In addition to weapons, the company was equipped with a set of the most modern devices of that time: telescopic sights, devices for shooting from behind cover, shooting shields, steel helmets, as well as automatic Mauser pistols for double shooters (soldiers who had undergone the same training course as the “main” automatic riflemen and could replace them if necessary). Soldiers with 6.5 mm automatic rifles were organized into a special rifle and machine-gun team.
Another source of information is the book “Machine guns of the Russian army in battle” by Semyon Fedoseyev, a rather authoritative Russian specialist. In it you can also find such a reference. on page 55.
Optical sights of the Hertz system were ordered to the Obukhov factory as early as December 1914 for standard 7.62-mm rifles. But in June 1916 the first 20 sights were delivered for Fedorov submachine guns.
We can find out what Goerz optical systems looked like from one pre-revolutionary catalog. However, the exact model of the sights that were used for FA is unknown, but still, we can get some general idea.
And the second mention of the regimental commander in Tsarist Russia made a note of the results of the live firing like “Fedorov automat with optics is good, but it uses a lot of ammunition and it’s a little bit hard to hit, but Fedorov rifle with optics is good.” Maybe once I saw this note, or it was not her, I do not remember exactly, it was a long time ago. If I find it myself again, I’ll be sure to post it on the forum. Also the existence of this note was confirmed by the Russian forumer “@Darth_Sidi0us”, who told me about it a long time ago. But if anyone has this note, I’d really appreciate it if you’d drop it in the comments of this post.
