All that is known about the so-called "Fyodorov sniper automat" ( currently)

Hello, comrades, and good afternoon everyone. I decided to investigate such topic as the so-called “Fyodorov sniper automat”, that is a telescopic sight for Fyodorov automat. I have done some work and collected all known information about sniper FA. Of course, it’s not much, but what I have is what I have.
I would love to see the Fyodorov sniper automat, such an interesting weapon in our game in TECH TREE. Specifically in the tech tree, not the event, not the premium, not the Battle Pass.

Therefore I declare the beginning of the research about Fedorov sniper automat open.
I hope you’ll be interested in reading this.

“Fyodorov sniper automat”

On the Internet sometimes you can find such images.

You say it looks like computer graphics. Yes, because it is computer graphics. We have no reliable photos of the Fedorov Automat with a telescopic sight.
But it’s not a problem, remember the Hino-Komuro rifle, so it’s the same situation, we have only modern models from reconstructors, and how reliable they are is questionable, even very questionable

Anyway, I decided to investigate the topic further and here is the information I managed to find.

Mentioned in Kalashnikov journal.

One of the sources of information is the Kalashnikov Journal and its article “A new type of weapon”

There we can find references to the fact that a special automatic company (“The Special Automatic Company” , also called ‘Major General Fedorov’s Automatic Company’, was a unit of the Russian Tsarist army created for combat testing of submachine guns and automatic rifles) was given, among other things, telescopic sights for armament

In addition to weapons, the company was equipped with a set of the most modern devices of that time: telescopic sights, devices for shooting from behind cover, shooting shields, steel helmets, as well as automatic Mauser pistols for double shooters (soldiers who had undergone the same training course as the “main” automatic riflemen and could replace them if necessary). Soldiers with 6.5 mm automatic rifles were organized into a special rifle and machine-gun team.

Machine guns of the Russian army in battle

Another source of information is the book “Machine guns of the Russian army in battle” by Semyon Fedoseyev, a rather authoritative Russian specialist. In it you can also find such a reference. on page 55.

Optical sights of the Hertz system were ordered to the Obukhov factory as early as December 1914 for standard 7.62-mm rifles. But in June 1916 the first 20 sights were delivered for Fedorov submachine guns.

Goerz sights

We can find out what Goerz optical systems looked like from one pre-revolutionary catalog. However, the exact model of the sights that were used for FA is unknown, but still, we can get some general idea.

A note from the regimental commander

And the second mention of the regimental commander in Tsarist Russia made a note of the results of the live firing like “Fedorov automat with optics is good, but it uses a lot of ammunition and it’s a little bit hard to hit, but Fedorov rifle with optics is good.” Maybe once I saw this note, or it was not her, I do not remember exactly, it was a long time ago. If I find it myself again, I’ll be sure to post it on the forum. Also the existence of this note was confirmed by the Russian forumer “@Darth_Sidi0us”, who told me about it a long time ago. But if anyone has this note, I’d really appreciate it if you’d drop it in the comments of this post.

I suspect this refers to single shots? I’d be very surprised if this is about automatic fire.

weather in reality such rifle existed or not.

i don’t see how “strapping” a scope on top of a rifle is out of the ordinary.
( yes… i know there’s more to it. i’m just being sarcastic )

like, we introduced post war jets and machineguns on the soviets, this wouldn’t be the craziest thing to have been added in enlisted.

as sniper assault rifles goes, the sniper mkb, sniper stg, or for example, the sniper G43, M1C and other not so widely made snipers, were for the most part, rejected or not widely used because most weren’t good at what they were supposed to do / originally intended to achieve.

yet we have them all in enlisted functioning just fine
( which it’s not a complain. but to show that anything is possible. like the ho ri. “we” added pure fiction. )

As I recall it was tested in both automatic and single mode. But I can’t say for sure, I saw this note many months ago, even last year (2024), so I only remember very rough contents.

I’d be really surprised if it was good at full auto with scope and rifle round. Both germans and yanks tried this with intermediate ammo and even with weaker rounds they weren’t happy.

It wasnt , STG and MKB with scopes werent good , after few round , you had to recalibrate their optics again and those guns used intermediate round now imagine it with Federov , I bet the scope didnt keep its zero like STG and MKB

Well, we’re a video game. A lot of things are possible here, the same Tip Hey automatic rifle has pretty low recoil even in automatic mode. And the Fedorov uses the same cartridge, so…

By the way, the Tip Hey automatic rifle has a scope mount probably

In terms of the game, it doesn’t matter too much.

I know this doesn’t matter for the game. I was just curious about it’s irl performance. This quote is highly suspicious.

You don’t have to be gun expert to imagine it probably wasn’t very good. Both in terms of recoil and accuracy.

So basically just funky experimental stuff to prove the point.

Exactly, STG44 with scope saw zero confirmed usage outside the testing grounds - so a Fedorov with scope wouldn’t be crazy in comparison.

Technically, the Fedorov fires the same 6.5 cartridge as the Arisakas.
The type 100 grenade launcher uses a simple mounting system that fits all barrels.

Therefore…

Because it is, it’s really CG. We have no reliable photos of the Fyodorov Avtomat with telescopic sight.
But it is not a problem, remember the Hino-Komuro rifle, so it is the same situation with it, all we have are modern models from reconstructor and how reliable they are is doubtful, even very much doubtful.
