All Maps are bad

No matter the faction, no matter the campaign, no matter the mission, i dislike all the maps.

The maps don’t feel like they are created after historical sites, rather they put in certain stuff and build the rest around it without proper care or balance or history.

As a pilot, you either have too much space to bomb or too little space to bomb, rarely a even space where bombing truly matters. But observing the bigger picture, you see how close the other maps of the same campaign are. Hopefully weather gets added to add some difficulty, as of right now, not even cloudy weather exists.

As a tanker, clutter, destroyed tanks, stools, small rocks, rubble, trees and so much more is ALWAYS SOMEHOW SOMEWHERE blocking the damn tank! Or Car. Or Bike. It truly gets on my nerves, how easy it is to get your damn tank stuck on or in whatever there is on the map. Forcing tankers to take their commanders out for some fresh air to SEE, if something is going to ruin their drive aaaaand he got sniped. It certainly ruins the expirience of driving a WW2 vehicle and giving support to the infantry, only to find out, that pretty much everything on the ground laying, even the destroyed flakcannons can hinder the movement.

Also the hills and valleys aren’t suitable for tanks, some incline or decline on uneven ground and the damn tank doesn’t stop clinkering or behaves badly, not making it easy to use terrain as advantage.

As Infantry, holy smoking barrel of a Dshk! The maps are cluttered with stuff and foliage and junk and barbed wire, which we can’t remove unless we use explosive and even then it is questionable, if it gets removed or not. Engineers build things, we can dismantle and destroy these things, but the stuff that is already part of the map, wow, i love getting my soldiers stuck and damaged of stuff, that can’t be removed, because they are part of the map.

And that was just the unnecessary stuff on the ground, the buildings we can scale and reach spots on the map, because the climbing mechanic is that bad, is mind blowing. Getting into attics and building rallypoints in them, so the enemy can’t destroy them with gunfire or even explosives, is almost cheating. And one of the reasons why i made this. Last match on the berlin map, one crazy soviet got himself on a roof almost next to the last spawnpoint and build a ampulomet in such a way, he could easily bomb the spawn and the last cappoint, while not being reached and shot at. He even had a pretty good rallypoint hidden in the same building. It was no fun in the end.

Which leads me straight to the next issue for infantry, the frickn mission points and spawnpoints! How is it possible, for enemy infantry to stay at the point of the map, where the next ally spawnpoint will be? I’ve seen this happen a few times, losing roughly 100 spawnpoints to this massacre. Even more, when they place AP mines before being forced to leave via map move. And then there are spawnpoints, which makes you question what the devs were thinking. One of the best candidates for this is the awful axis spawn on the Stalingrad Railway station part, where they have to cross all the rails to reach the building while the russians have 2 MG placement facing their spawn as part of the map from the start, sounds almost like DDay but in DDay you have atleast space for tanks and the spawn is downhill, not uphill and easy for HE and ampulomet bombardment. And we got another unfortunate spawn like that in Tunisia, again for the Axis what surprise.

And the cap points, who though it was a good idea to put a cap point in the middle of a bridge or on a wide open field with both sides having access to trenches and buildings on their side or other terrible to defend/attack spots, making one question why these points are important to begin with.

Overall, i don’t really enjoy any of these maps at all. What would make these maps better, would be to rework these cap/spawnpoints and making it able for us to remove certain parts like the destroyed tanks and other things from the maps. When someone abuses the climbing on the maps to reach certain spots, well, good for him and another bad for the map creators, because these lead very quickly to abuse and ending a match too soon for everyone.

One of the reasons why i like the Paratroopers, finally not bound to these godawful spawnpoints and setting my rallypoint in a way better place.

Imagine hating basically every map in game and yet still keep playing it. That’s hilarious lol.

I would quit game immediately. Luckily I love or at least like every map. I just don’t like certain game modes like conquest and train escort.

That is just wrong, many of the maps are based on real places.
Plus you complain about maps not being real and then you say that the blown up tanks on the road “ruin the vehicle driving experience”

Personally, I don’t think there is anything wrong with being able to get on the roof of buildings.
If an enemy scales a building, it takes 1 sniper to pick him off.
And the annoying rally point placement can also be solved very easily, at least in my case.
I just take a really long route arond the edge of the map and attack building the rally point is in from behind. 1-2 squads get the job done.
Of course this only works if the enemy rally point is in the ally playing area or close enough that you don’t die on the way there.

If you hate the game, don’t play it!

I like most of the maps, but there are some I feel could use some improvement, like Quarry or cave village.

I only dislike Armored Train/Berlin and that awful cave village in Tunisia

I don’t agree with the rest of this post but this right here is true, only Stalingrad and berlin have tried to recreate battlefields, the rest are just random assets thrown together to give a feeling of “accuracy”, for example every single Normandy town map having the same buildings over and over and over when they could have attempted to recreate Carentan or Caen

This should not be a thing I agree, just unnesessary piece of frustration, if you dont know, the latter is Gaijin`s actual policy, frustrating people for them to play more, BUT, I dont think in-map barbed wire is justified, it just sucks.

Why do people think, that disliking = hating? Besides, i play this game already since the Moscow campaign, i spent my fair share of time in this game, hoping for better maps and better spawnpoint placements.

And people seem to confuse real with Realism. You could recreate a city, which doesn’t exist, because it isn’t real, but make it REALISTIC if you put in stuff like tanks, cars, whatever floats your goat, to annoy people who want to drive tanks. And its not like we have PLENTY of historical maps for the devs to look at and put them in the game.

I’m surprised that no one mentions the main spawn placements on the maps. Is really everyone cool with them? I can understand some being okay, but there are some, which really hurts the gamestart.

They are too narrow.

Too bad WW2 wasnt just about couple of fancy spots.

The maps themselves are really nice and well done in appearance and details

the issue is how they apply the grey areas in these maps and where they choose to place the tiny objectives on these maps instead of having larger capture areas/objectives

and how they deliberately create narrow limited killing zones that have no alternate ways to deal with them due to the grey areas blocking and limiting the flanking opportunities

one my biggest issues with this game is the grey areas

definitely the spawn locations being moved to the areas that are still being contested, that is just beyond ridiculous

few other issues there with things like ammunition locations for tanks as the battle shifts to objectives, in one map the ammo was outside in the grey zone to the side for whatever reason, they should keep the old locations active for the attacking team, so that if they are on route to the old ammo place, it doesn’t disappear before they reach there, since it’s just easier at that point to get it there, as the next one might be too far out the way

I enjoy and appreciate the effort that went into making the maps themselves and love the potential it has

but it needs a lot of work regarding opening up the battlefield playable area to feel more genuine so it feels less like just another silly arcade shooter like team fortress fighting in a tight box and small environment and would feel more like an enjoyable more genuine ww2 combat experience

Quarry is a disaster if t50s and t34s were allowed to run wild, they can cut off defenders/attackers from their spawn.

Some maps are terrible but omer is really great. Lots of buildings to put rallies, wide uncluttered streets for tanks and most of the objectives are balanced
