First and foremost, the pathing of AI squad members needs to be drastically improved. They almost always have a problem getting to the most basic location you tell them to go, especially if it involves stairs. They also seem to be unwilling to vault over obstacles, as evidenced by them perpetually running in circles around the fountain on Gogol Street if they spawn in there.
The hold position command is extremely inconsistent with where the AI will end up standing. It works well in large rooms, but if there are multiple floors or smaller areas, theyâll randomly distribute themselves around the interior and exterior of the area.
The AIâs self-preservation and situational awareness is absurdly bad. You can order them into a trench, and half of them will stand on top of it. They have absolutely no concept of taking cover. When theyâre taking fire or see a threat, they should automatically run to the nearest cover, or go prone and start shooting if there is none. Half the time I encounter an AI in CQB, it will just look at me for a second, then look back at its leader and keep walking. They literally act like mannequins in most engagements.
I know the lethality and accuracy of the AI was a hot issue in the early days of this game, especially with automatic weapons. If the improvements were made in the previously mentioned areas, the AI survivability would be significantly better without even adjusting their lethality/accuracy. That said, there is absolutely room to improve the AIâs lethality without approaching aimbot territory. You can stand out the middle of a field with a bolt action rifle and kill an entire squad of AI before they hit you. This might not be the case in top tier, but with low tier weapons they are almost incapable of killing a player. No one wants AIâs carrying games, but they should be able to defend themselves and stay alive a lot better than they do now.
That is not exactly true. If you only do a squad command to stay in a building, they will occupy the general area given by the formation (Close,Normal, Wide). If you want a soldier to stay in a specific spot you need to give an individual order (Works great in trenches both natural and player-made). Same thing works with building things, they are much more consistent in finishing the task.
As for lethality, it is just something that will always be a see-saw back and forth until they get it right. At one time you could literally stab every soldier with no consequence. Then they were verrryy lethal, with many posts being about hackers when in fact they are bots. Now we are in this murky inbetween kinda with lethality.
I just try to position each of my soldiers the best I can when I get the chance and ping all the time so they turn in that direction, shortening the âsearchâ phase so they can target. And I can only hope that they continue to add things you can order your soldiers to do.
I tried to do that for a while when I first realized that you can give individual commands.
It was actually kinda fun to search for good vantage points, like windows and trenches, to have each soldier cover some part of the objective.
But I quickly stopped after getting my orders cancelled all the time because I was âtoo far awayâ.
It was just frustrating and really not worth the time it took.
In my opinion AI should stop shooting through foliage and after that the AI accuracy should be increased. Their reaction time is absurdly slow so that needs improvement aswell. Overall i want the AI to shoot more but hit less. It would give the fights at least some feeling even if the result would be same
I changed my bind for it a long time ago so I dont remember default (mine is set to â~â[hold] ).
But to find it you go to Controls > Squad > Change Mode of Giving Orders
This is actually a bug of the bush that they are shooting through. The bush itself is supposed to block their vision if I remember correctly. So if you find a set of bushes that they shoot thru often, feel free to report that location.
I do wish that the leash range was just a tad longer as well. It is still a good habit to get into, because overall it makes them more effective for the most part and when they do eventually get better overtime, you are already ahead of the curve
So it IS a separate button you need to bind. Frick. Was hoping it was another input in the Squad Orders. Welp, guess I gotta figure something out if I ever want to use it. Sucks having no real estate on a controller sometimes
Here is an example of how I have it setup with my keyboard if it helps wrap your head around it a bit more. Also, if he has the time to, @WidowMakerUk73 might have some setups with this since he uses controller (unsure if he uses this feature tho)
Seriously Please Darkflow put some effort into AI, at least make higher tier/veterancy AI a bit better so maybe the noobs dont suffer but its so immersion/ realism breaking when AI even just stands in the middle of an active battlefield, or just stares blankly as 7 enemy assaulters run literally right next to them.
Commands such as marking to throw grenade, etc covering fire etc would be a god send, but even just basic normal human-like behaviour would be nice to see. APC dismounts at least spray and pray, so you can obv tune AI to act less like complete scarecrows.
As far as the pathing goes, when not being given other orders the AI should simply be made to follow in the playerâs exact footsteps - as actual soldiers do when traversing a suspected/known minefield.
They need to work on the AI ASAP. The current AI is terrible, and actually makes no sense given the current state of the game (most of the infantry are AI, filling the role as squadmates, though instead they are mobile spawn points that just provide the enemy team that targets them with free kills).
How do you spot a player in a match? Easy, they are taking cover, leaning and not standing next to windows whilst staring at walls. The AI is literally suicidal, they wonât take cover, they often stand outside when bombers are coming or mortars are landing and they refuse to come inside. Often they can be found standing on hills overlooking the player that they are tethered to, or standing face-to-wall, all the while waiting to die.
On the rare event you step close enough to activate the enemy AI, they One-Punch you like the Terminator. Thatâs the only time they are of any use. Itâs sad. SAD.
âI dont think it is an bug. AI will see you through every bush and even smoke grenadesâ
And thatâs utterly stupid and should be fixed, be it a bug or feature. Especially considering that bots will spot you the very moment you get into their line of sight, even from far away. Which is lame too. I donât even know why crawling is available as you canât hide by doing so.
