Let us take control of the gunner while still have control over the plane like we can do with ground vehicles. I have never seen my AI gunner hit anything ever. Its just useless.
While it would be nice if they did some adjustment, I will note that the perks they have make quite a difference.
On Soviets for example I use the Sb-2M even at high tier, and usually do pretty decent in regards to the gunner. One of the big things to note is do NOT put “range of detection” perk on your gunners. The reason for this is they will attempt to shoot at planes that are too far out and usually burn all their ammo before bringing down their target.

About the tailgunners, I believe they used to be more efficient than now.
After they were introduced, they would actually take down planes.
But that didnt last very long.
For quite a while now, they have bad eyes and no glasses.
Even with the best perks, they dont seem to take down many planes, but they do give them damage.

It will take time to implement because they will have to remodel every tailgunner seat. Currently the tailgunner seats are poorly modeled and are not as detailed as the cockpit
Alternatively, something that I have suggested in the past (that Idk if its possible to do), is make it to where friendly players in your squad can take over the tailgunner slot in your plane!
Not that they have to SPAWN with you, but that there be a button they can press even while they have troops on the ground that will set their squad to be AI controlled where they are, and the players transfers control to the gunner seats of their teammates plane.
This serves multiple purposes:
- Defense in tailgunner positions
- Some of the aircraft has front or even side gunners, so allowing a friend to operate this would allow for additional fire on ground targets during strafe runs!! This way the pilot can focus on using main ordinance and the teammate can focus on gunning!
