AI Commands - stay covered, dig a manhole, do not shoot, cover our move

Hi developers, from my point of view is most anoying part behavior of own AI members  but also understand that is a hard task to do it better. Few linear, scriptable - so doable suggestions:

  • command *Stay down" (AI members stay vigilant, but lay where they got commant to defend point, especially they do not stand and run around making themselves visible practise targets)

  • command “Manhole” (AI members - if equipped with propper equipment - start to dig themselves, so they are not so visible, not so easy to hit by gunfire or artilery)

  • commandy “Do not shoot” (sometimes you prefer to stay unnoticed - eg artilery spotters and AI stands and shoots so reveal position of whole group to enemy)

  • command “Cover fire” (if ordered “red mark” = probable position of enemy - AI members start to cover/fire so they can hit windows / doors or just direction to supress a little of enemy fighters - very useful, when one tank member repairs and other stay inside)

  • command “Defend sector” (AI members will search enemy in ordered direction - red mark - and will shoot any enemy comes in range / sight. useful in position defence, building defence)

thanx for reading, thanx for such a great game you created !

or they take cover by crouching, when applicable.

this is called a foxhole

hold fire

tnx for corrections  I am not strong in english military terms.
have you noticed what is actual setting in AI command behavior agresive / passive? I feel it is like “shoot frequently / do not shoot too much” - do you have other experience?

not rly, but then again i don’t give more detailed orders than “capture the point” usually

“Stay down” is badly needed. Where bots only crawl to follow you or crawl to an assigned area.

“Hold fire” as well. Perhaps only fire if enemies are 10 feet or less and in direct line of sight. I.e. a direct and imminent threat.

Another thing that I’d like to see change is bots running wild out of cover when I build a beacon with my Engineer. This is game breaking.

this was bcause ppl had problems of their bots getting in the way while they build, or so ive heard (i wasnt there for that)

yes, capture target (well, usually they just run and die, but make some usual time to make some serious damage to defenders)

“attack tank” - that really works fine (if they do not die in enemy gunfire, but usually with same probability as me. maybe AI could try to move to the tank better covered)

and “finish my engineer stuff” - last one I use and works properly

maybe a “load your weapons” or “check your ammo” command, I really get tired of changing bots and having to reload their weapons one by one

Bots did have a tendency to stand exactly in the spot you were trying to build with alarming frequency; I’m guessing they can’t see engineer structures until they’re fully built.

Making them just run around while building is a bandaid fix that I really hope they can refine because it really causes more problems

I figured that was the reason but the solution is causing my entire squad to run from cover and then die when I build ammo for my squad😂

Perhaps when we build, bots could crawl away not far and also not run around like hornet🐝 nest that’s been stirred up.

I can put all my bots downstairs inside a building. I run upstairs to build a beacon and my bots still run wild! Or I put them all outside a small log cabin. They are hidden nice all on one side of cabin. I go inside cabin to build beacon and they still run wild when I start to build.

The proximity alarm based off of distance that sets them to going crazy when we build needs to be reduced.

Mostly impossible.

A. Digging isnt even in most campaigns

B. A lot of surfaces in maps like berlin will not be diggable, and this will lead the AI to not know what to do already

C. Theyll get stuck even more trying to do that

i have mixed results with that last one.

mebbe the devs could make bots see an in progress construction as tho it was completed?

true, of course -“if possible” can be very tricky / potencially stuck - but scriptable (if not succes in 5m range from actual AI position just lay down and do not move).
