As a life-long amateur buff of wartime history, I’ve always had a great appreciation of historically accurate games, or at least historically accurate as you can get for a game, regarding WWII: Post Scriptum, Hell Let Loose, and indeed Enlisted itself. I also, on the other hand, enjoy alternate-history and historical anachronisms in games: Wolfenstein 2009 and subsequent MachineGames’ settings, mods like HOI4’s TNO, I enjoy their re-interpretations and rather less-than accurate depictions of the war.
So, as it stands, I’m not at all bothered by the tendency for inaccurate weapons, kit and campaigns, and wouldn’t particularly mind seeing that sort of thing depicted: battles in nameless, fictional Castles and Chateaus between British Commandos and Fallschirmjager, all of that I’d be personally fine with seeing, provided it wasn’t the be-all-end-all of Enlisted, conquest maps set in strange, unnerving underground catacombs being fought between Soviets and Germans in the snows of Moscow’s outskirts.
Campaigns set around somewhat more Call of Duty, Medal of Honor or Hidden & Dangerous circumstances and settings, from underground labs to V2 rocket sites, all of that which would add new content to the game.
As an addition, it would be perfectly acceptable in my eyes - as a replacement, I think it’d be a misstep.
Obviously, I’m certain some people would disagree - as it is, I’ve seen many people voice their discontent with the likes of Mk42bs being included in the Moscow campaign given their prototypical and rare nature - but I am personally all for more ahistorical inclusions if it adds to the variety of gameplay already present.
Let me know your thoughts.
