Adjust the rate of fire of the AVT-40 to real-world conditions

50+ rof will be fine

lets say 840 because stalinium > anything GE ever made.

Very nice video!

idk why would anyone want to nerf AVT 40 with more ROF… currently it is most comfortable SF rifle out there…

Lets not decide for soviet mains that clearly know better, let them have 1200rof

But let me guess those same mains wont accept a nerf to the dispersion and accuracy for their AVT in return to get that more in line with the FG.

Real world conditions was single fire

Cos that shit broke otherwise

from AVT-40 Testing Report - Forgotten Weapons

  • The barrel life is 6000 rounds when firing 50 rounds per minute, after which the rifle was allowed to cool. Continuous fire brings the life down to 150-200 rounds.

so maybe avt40 needs to be limited to 50 rpm?

btw it is funny how shit avt40 was in actual real life…

Conclusions on the proving ground trials of 7.62 mm automatic rifles, converted from semi-automatic rifles, with 10-15 round magazines showed that:

  1. Groups at 100 meters when firing in bursts increase by 3-3.5 times.
At 300 meters, only 25-30% of the bullets strike a 3×3 meter target.
At 500 meters, up to 30% of the bullets strike a 3.5-4 meter target.
  2. While shooting with a 15 round magazine, grouping gets worse, and it is difficult to fire while prone due to the protruding magazine.
When shooting at targets, only the first bullet hits.
  3. The ability to aim is limited to 50 shots over the span of one minute. After that, the barrel overheats, and a mirage effect is achieved, which impedes aiming.
  4. The automatic rifle jams:
With thick grease: 2-4% of the time
    With dry parts: 12-14%
    In dusty conditions: 14-50%
While aiming up or down: 8-12%
  5. The barrel life is 6000 rounds when firing 50 rounds per minute, after which the rifle was allowed to cool. Continuous fire brings the life down to 150-200 rounds.

The automatic fire was largely uncontrollable, and the rifles often suffered breakages under the increased strain. Documents discovered after the war indicated that during testing, under continuous automatic fire, an AVT-40’s barrel would be “shot out”, meaning the rifling in the barrel would be completely worn down, in as little as 200-250 rounds. The use of the AVT’s automatic fire mode was subsequently prohibited, and production of the rifle was relatively brief; none were made after the summer of 1943.

The MG-42 barrel won’t hold up to 50 rounds in a row. lol. Although it’s a thick machine gun barrel. You’re talking about a regular rifle barrel. 200 shots after continuous fire is quite a decent result.

  • Sustained Fire Limitations:

A good crew could fire about 250 rounds in 12.5 seconds before needing a barrel change, according to Warfare History Network. Some sources suggest changing barrels after every 150-250 rounds.

Dunno, I guess known enlisted soviet main knows better.

Anyway, hows the quick barrel change working out for avt ?

It turns out that 200-250 shots is normal. Then why are you criticizing the AVT-40?

If it renders the gun useless, it really isnt.
Hence the question, hows the avt quick barrel change working out.

about the same as on FG-42

quite relevant for subject of avt / mg42

anyway

The FG42’s practical rate of fire is estimated to be around 250 rounds per minute

But no mention about melting rifling so try again

The different versions meant that the service life of an MG 42 barrel varied between 3,500 and 8,000 rounds assuming the barrel was used according to the regulations, which prohibited rapid fire beyond 150 rounds. Excessive overheating caused by rapid firing about 500 rounds through a barrel resulted in unacceptable wear of the bore rendering the barrel useless.

mg42 had 150 rounds of continuous fire as normal, while avt 40 had 150 rounds of continuous fire as breaking point…

one is a machine gun designed for sustained fire, the other is a semi-automatic rifle designed to be fired 10 times a minute. Its no brainer to figure out that AVT-40 wont last long in full-auto.

Even modern selectfire rifles aren’t really used in full auto - in the context of Enlisted where everyone is constantly mag dumping with rifles this shouldn’t really matter.

I say - if the gun had a different rate of fire in the real world? Why not change it.

First the rates of fire should be implemented correctly - and then should the gun be balanced accordingly. This now also would effect other guns as well.

STG 44 had a rate of fire of 500, this should be corrected and then afterwards a way should be found to make that gun still effective in BR5 ( like higher damage/accuracy)

500-600 rpm actually, while AS-44 had around 600, but both have more with about 10% for some reason.
The only difference is that fire rate actually matters for ARs since they are 2 hit kill while SF rifles are one hit.
