In the American Marines campaign progression, the seaplane has two 100lb bombs and a front-facing machine gun. For their upgrade to the first fighter pilot squad at level 12, they get a plane with .50 cals as well as the same amount and weight of bombs (2 bombs, 100lb each).
In the Japan campaign progression, the seaplane has 4 60kg bombs and no front-facing machine gun. For the ‘upgrade’ at level 12, the A5M4 is unlocked which has 7.7mm machine guns and two spots underwing with room for one bomb each, but there are no bombs.
While the first American fighter pilot squad can effectively attack ground targets as well as air targets, the first Japanese fighter pilot squad can only effectively contribute to the team if there is an enemy plane in the air, which still provides relatively fewer points than what would be gained by doing ground attack. The A5M4 therefore seems like a downgrade from the seaplane in its current state.

It had only one bomb lack under body.(1x60kg)
But anyway we need bomb for A5M4.

“effective” is being used very very loosely since these are 100 pound bombs though i do agree that a payload for a5m4 wouldn’t be too bad

I think it does have a kind of balance: the first American plane is painfully underpowered and ligltly armed, almost to the point of uselessness; while the first Japanese plane is faster, can climb higher, and has a better bomb load capable of causing real damage on the ground.
The second tier of aircraft find the Americans at an advantage where they finally have a decent plane that can climb and shoot as well as provide limited CAS; while the japanese have a plane that is under armed to the point of uselessness

If you look closely, you can see that the A5M4 has a bomb rack under each wing. I’m surprised that it can’t equip bombs like it does in War Thunder. Why do the dev’s think 7.7 = .05 cal?

I can confirm…it does have a rack system under each wing and historically it can take two 33KG HE bombs or a fuel tank.
