All engineers regardless of squad have access to basic building features: sandbags, barbwire, czech hedgehogs, etc. HOWEVER, the engineer squad themselves have only a handful of weapons that they can build that sets them apart. I think the addition of stronger defensive structures that can ONLY be built by the engineer squad would really help add a more dynamic feeling to the game. Structures that aren’t only used by defense but potentially by offense as well.
Small bunkers to help against explosives is high on that list. Basic fragmentation and small(er) explosives won’t phase them. It would require things like TNT, very large bombs from aircraft, and tanks ramming through them to break them. To build them it would require a large amount of materials, potentially more than a standard engineer alone has to build them, as well as a substantial amount of time (more than anything that is currently in the game). This way, having engineer squads that consist of more engineers with perks towards build speed and material amounts are necessary to put these in.
Inside there would be snap points that MG nests could be mounted, as well as space on the floor for a rally point or ammo boxes. The roof of the structure could be built on as well with other structures.
Other additional structures could be added later, but at least this to start off would be very helpful on many of the campaigns. It would help both with defensive fortification as well as a more secure area for rally points when trying to make an offensive push.
