Add a new class between riders(who should have jeeps) and tankers: Scout

Simple. Cannon-armed(20mm to 37? 45? 47? 50mm at the absolute most) lightly armored wheeled(or half-tracked) vehicles with a low crew capacity don’t really make good tanks. They don’t make good APCs because of the whole low crew capacity. They’d be unfitting for riders since their entire schtick is mobility and machine guns, not cannons.
So what? Add a new class. Scout. For scout vehicles or vehicles that would be too much for a rider and too little for a tanker squad. That’d mean, of course, throwing the Daimler, BA-11, Puma, and Greyhound into a different vehicle class, but as they are they’re almost completely useless outside of arguably the Puma.

Limited fully tracked vehicles would also apply, like the L3 and other tankettes.

I think for now if it’s only armed with an MG it’s a Rider/ APC. Anything else makes it a tank slot

Some have suggested making SPAAs their own slot but that has complications. Its easy to say that when right now we only have low tier peashooter SPAAS, but what happens when we get the big boys like Wirblewind or even the Flak Panther. Or the recent Flakbus, it has a fully open top and zero armor so should it be a support vehicle

Or with Armored cars. Why would a Puma be a tank slot while a Sd Kfz 251 Pak 40 would be an APC. Or some have said make the M13 Halftracks an APC

Or let’s look at flamethrowers. It’s easy to say make the Sd Kfz 251 Flamm a support vehicle, but what about the KV Flamethrower. They both do the same job so why make one a “tank” and the other a support vehicle. Or the Panzer II Flamm or Panzer 3 Flamm or Stug Flamm. All these vehicles do the same exact job, the only difference is their power level. So should we just make a “tank slot” the most powerful vehicles and everything else is a support vehicle. So the Ha-Go becomes a support vehicle and only a few vehicles are specifically “tank slots”

That is why for now I think we should keep it simple. If it’s armed with an auto-cannon, flamethrower, AT gun, it’s a SPAA vehicle, etc no matter what it is it goes to the tank slot. Halftrack with AT gun, armored car with auto cannon, armored car with AT gun, whatever. I feel is all that matters is the vehicle slot is doing whatever job he can to fight the fight.

I’m not entirely against diversifying, but like I said it gets complicated on a case by case basis.

The “tank slot” is more of a combat vehicle slot. King Tiger, Panzer II, SPAA, Tank destroyers, rocket artillery, armored car with an AT gun, half track with a howitzer. Anything

Why would a Puma be a tank slot while a Sd Kfz 251 Pak 40 would be an APC.
They’d both be Scout vehicles. Puma holds a small crew, 251 PaK40 holds a small crew. No room for extra troops, can’t be APC. Too thin to be a tank past BR1-2, too heavily armed to be a tank in BR1(50mm puma can fit in BR2 for obvious reasons but even then it’s still pretty limited in usage.

What a Scout class would do is add 1-2 more vehicle slots to the game, so you could theoretically have 3(or drop down to 2) APCs, 1-2 riders, 1-2 scouts, 2 tanks, 2 planes. Diversify the combined arms aspect without outright adding artillerymen 1km away from the field or something.

They both do the same job so why make one a “tank” and the other a support vehicle.
Simple. One is a fully tracked heavy tank armed with a flamethrower, the other is a thin-skinned halftrack.

Have riders in small, unarmored or lightly armored cars equipped with machine guns. Have Scouts be the same, but with cannons. Jeep with an M2 or 1919? Rider. M6 GMC? Scout. M3 scout car? Ironically, an APC, even if the max extra occupants is 6(but that didn’t stop the universal carrier.) M3 GMC? You could argue that it’d be a tank, but I feel it’d be better suited in the Scout role on account of its doctrine being basically hit and run when it was in use.

Basically, if it can hold extra crew and was used to transport them around, it’s an APC. If it was an APC modified into a fire support weapon or anti-tank vehicle, it’s a Scout. If it’s fully tracked and isn’t a tankette, it’s a Tank(or tank destroyer.) If it’s not able to hold extra crew and is armed with a machine gun up to 15mm, it’s a Rider. If it’s qualified to be a Rider but has a 20mm or bigger cannon, it’s a Scout. Shrimple as.

Now, as to whether or not you’d put the 251/21 Drilling with a triple 15mm AA gun setup or something similar into scout or rider or tanker, that’s entirely up to what Darkflow wants to do with SPAAGs.
