I’ve been thinking of a few ideas to add to AI squad usefulness in combat, the foremost viable being ‘active’ combat commands. Example: Rifle squads. They’re quickly tossed aside once you unlock more. So, they should get the first battle command…
Volley Fire: Order all bolt-action infantry in the squad to rapidly fire at a designated area, scattering their shots over a small, pinpointed area, any targeted enemy infantry in the area the player selects will be prioritized. During this 30 second long command, AI infantry will stagger their shots from each other to cover the other’s cycling/reloading and to produce a constant stream of fire. This command can also be used to accurately engage planes as they strafe by.
Here’s one for Engineers: Fortify. This works with the player setting up ghost fortifications in an area, and then commanding the engineer squad to Fortify. They will actively rush around, building everything you laid down for 45 seconds. Fortifications afterwards will have +100% durability.
Flamethrower Squad: Scorching Offensive: Flametroopers gain temporary immunity to ONLY their own flames, while gaining a +15% run speed buff for 30 seconds, and AI flametroopers in the squad will prioritize rushing the designated point with their flamethrowers.
Machinegunners: Suppress: Machinegun squad will drop/mount in the most viable position, and open fire on the designated area for 30 seconds. (Same deal as Volley Fire but with more machinegun.)
The main idea behind Volley Fire and Suppress is they can be useful against enemy planes if you catch them on a close strafe.
AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAAHAHAHHHA, this is really funny. Dont get me wrong your idea is cool…but how do you think they are going to add this when bot are still pure garbage? First they should fix the pathfinding, AI smartness in general and give the bloody command wheel update they have promised us months ago. Then we can talk of these special command, even tho i have to admit that i dont like these buff things. Suppression fire and volley fire are good commands to add. with these you can negate some area or suppress infantry if they add fire suppression, scorch is good if you have more than one flame trooper and you want to clear a building, but the statistic buff are nonsense.
I miss the order to throw grenades (around where I throw it, but not exactly) and would like to forget all the buffs…
How exactly is a soldier building two times stronger sandbags when his officer yells “FORTIFY!” ?
Though I forgot to test it, I was told you can already prepare multiple fortification “blueprints” with an engineer and order AI to finish them, while you’re protecting them with another soldier.
Is it about the three ways to fight (passive - for flanking, defensive, agressive) or something else?
yes, but also give commands to single soldier, like “you stay behind this window, you stay at the doorway”. They promised us this so much needed update months ago but we got nothing. I know every single post and every single day i talk about this thing, but for a game liek this that is unique for its “squad” feature this is an update that we really need and i will not rest until they give us what they have promised
I added the durability because bitches would complain when they took the time to ghost everything and give the order, only for an artillery strike/bombs to kill all the sandbags.
I’m not a military man but based on the last half year of exposition to such forum topics (thx 2 Enlisted), my idea of sandbags is that a “sandbag cleanup” should not happen if not hit directly.
So most of those sandbags should survive some indirect damage and get deteriorated somewhat, but still protect.
Also I’m not against making it possible to upgrade sandbag walls (two rows somewhat overlapping for stability plus maybe wooden planks or similar on 3rd upgrade level if you have that much time to build). Just not unrealistic random buffs out of nowhere.
