So first I want to say that Normandy was the first campaign I ever played and I absolutely love it, and its always a blast to play. I love that sweet USA vs Germany action
However, in real life during the war America did not act alone at Normandy or Operation Overlord, and the British made up the second half of the majority of forces during the operation. Will we ever get to see the British actions at Normandy in game, perhaps as a further expansion to the already existing Normandy campaign with new maps, squads, weapons, vehicles, planes, content, etc. Or maybe as its own separate campaign, although I somewhat prefer the latter.
We already have a decent amount of British content in game already, even in the Normandy campaign. Plus Tunisia is already a co-Allied campaign with both American and British forces.
It would also be a good excuse to add in more British gear into the game that could be added into other campaigns as well such as the Vickers Gas Operated MG, Flamethrower Portable No 2, more Sten variants, Valentine tanks, as well as other British/Commonwealth weapons, vehicles, planes, equipment, etc
I’m sure we will get future Western Front campaigns that will more prominently feature the British such as Operation Market Garden, anyway
The fact that you have British/Canadian weapons in Normandy yet no actual British/Canadian squads is so stupid. I just don’t get it. The US had plenty of gear that could have been unlocks instead of the British/Canadian weapons.
Personally I think either :
A) The British/Canadian weapons need to be replaced with more US gear so you don’t have US troops running around with Stens and Lee Enfields
Or
B) They need to rework the squads in the game. Make all squads generic, remove the idea that you are unlocking insert historical unit here. Then implement the ability to select which nation you want to represent a certain squad with, based on the nations that fought in a campaign. So for Normandy if you wanted a British Rifleman I squad you could have that, uniforms and all. If you wanted an American Radio Squad you could have that, uniforms and all.
I mean, half of the maps IRL counterparts were taken by the British or Canadians, so yes it’s stupid that only yanks appear.
Like, ver-sur-mer was British zone, swamp was taken by Canadians, airfield was taken by British and Canadians, Vaux was taken by British iirc, Chateau was taken by Canadians…
