Do I have to strip the equipment off the soldiers before sending them in? Or does it automatically do it when I send 3 soldiers in?

It automatically does it , BUT you get them back after the training is complete so don’t fear. Alternatively, you can strip and re-use the stuff right away (As annoying as this can be)
