Ability to Combine/Consolidate Partially Used Magazines

Not sure if this has been suggested before, I searched around and didn’t see too much.

Would be nice to have a keybind that allows you to take a moment and combine/consolidate ammo from your partially used magazines. I find that often when I go on a tear and manage to rip through all 5 magazines in a weapon, I am left with 5 magazines with about 3-5 ammo. Would be nice to have the ability to find cover and take a few moments to slowly combine the remaining ammo into 1 (or more if the ammo count is high enough) magazines.

The feature could work sort of like the way BattleBit does it:

  • You have to stop moving and hold the button/key
  • Your soldier will then start combining 2 of your reserve magazines at a time
  • Process would need a take maybe 5 seconds per set of magazines? (Honestly, IDRC how much time it takes. Whatever the devs/community thinks is best)

Curious to hear what the community thinks. I figure a simple feature like this shouldn’t cause any conflicts in the game.

Could be nice, but since they are coding proper reloading of G41 for more than 2 years, I doubt they could do something like this.

From a coding perspective I can’t imaging this would take too much effort to add. Doesn’t even really need an animation, the combining could happen off screen with a small circular progress indicator graphic on the screen. (Nobody wants to see their soldier individually loading a 30rnd magazine) Outside of that, it would just be moving numbers around. -5 ammo from Mag One, +5 ammo to Mag Two.

It’s an interesting idea, and one that might slow down the gameplay a bit which I’m generally in favor of, but I honestly don’t see myself doing this except in matches on really big maps that are taking forever. Would be really good if we got a new gamemode on giant combined maps that’s designed to be more strategic and time consuming.

I can easily see the benefits for guns with detachable magazines, but what about stripper clip and en bloc clip guns? Stripper clips are easy, you’d just make as many full clips as you can with a partial clip or loosies left over. Mannlicher type en blocs would work well too, since they’re single stack, but partial loading an M1 Garand is a pain. It’s already not accounted for in the game, but Garand clips just don’t really hold ammo unless they’re full.

I believe it is called mag packing, and battlebit remastered has it. I think it would be an easy addition and much appreciated so as I don’t have to waste time loading 1 round stripper clips or 3 round magazines.

Totally agree that a lot of the time it may not be needed. Though I think that it would be a nice feature to have for the times where you do have multiple low ammo mags in your pocket and a moment to try and combine them. A lot of the time the alternative is to scavenge around for enemy weapons that somehow lost ALL of their ammo lol

Taking some bullets from a partially used mag/clip and adding it to another mag/clip is rather time consuming, and I don’t really see a soldier in an active firefight removing some bullets from one mag/clip to another.

Instead of giving ammo left as a number (like in COD or BF) display it as actual magazines or clips (like in Insurgency: Sandstorm)

Not really meant to be a “in the firefight” type of action. More a “I have time between firefights, let me consolidate my ammo for the next”.

Battlebit Remastered is what gave me the idea! I was playing it thinking, this is a really smart feature for persistent magazine style games.

I also play BattleBit! And I absolutely agree with this suggestions, though I doubt the developers would implement this into the game.

As it is, you can quikly refill every mag on an ammo box. So why complicate the game.
Just bring an Engeneer and build a frikin ammo box.

clip to gun → insert the loosie ammo to clip → partially loaded gun.
Not much different than loading BA’s with fixed magazines.
And for sake of gameplay, inserting partially loaded clip to garand shouldnt be problem.

Explain me a thing or two because I don’t follow.

Ppl here are talking about BA rifles but as far as I know they don’t have magazine mechanic, total ammo is shared in this case. Soldier always has a full clip if neded.

I mean yeah but thats just getting ammo… You could argue the same for switching soldiers or dying and respawning with more ammo.

Really wouldn’t complicate the game much. From a “new addition” stand point, it really shouldn’t be too much effort on the developers end. The ground work is already there with the “individual mag” system. From a player perspective… if the option to hold a button/key to consolidate mags is too complicated ignore it; Game would function exactly the same as it does not for those players. There’s plenty of other “too complicated” systems in the game that in my opinion require far more effort to utilize. IE: Advanced Plane controls…

Also… everyone knows the engineer is the first soldier to die in your squad. The few times that I need ammo and still have an engineer alive, by the time I finish switching to that soldier, finding a location to build and building the box… the original soldier (now AI controlled) has decided to run out into enemy fire and die.

My suggestion was directed towards magazine fed weapons, not clip fed. Not sure how clip fed weapons were brought up either. As you are correct, this mechanic would not apply or change anything in those cases.
