Ability for bots on vehicles to drive on map marks placed by the squad leader ( player )

Main Idea:

the idea is simple, ( easier to say than done i have to admit ).

it would be usefull if bots that are on vehicles, the squad leader can use an additional command in the wheel to order them to go at that specific marker. but only when inside vehicles:




And a little pop-up shows up, and tells the player whenever the AI reached the destination:


( should be different than mine, i didn’t had time to make the glow/bloom perfect xd )

after that, the AI should hop out immediatly after they reached the destination and start seeking cover and eventually, ( if under fire ) return fire. best thing would be that after the mark disappear, will be automatically replaced with a hold order. ( so that AI will not run back to you just to get shoot in the back )

so yeah, this is how it should work.

you press x for your AI to hop on the vehicle, Press M to open the map, Leave a marker by clicking Right Click, and than, open the Command/Order Wheel and select the first option on the top.

i do understand that this system would require quite some work. but it would be very usefull. and in order to work, they have to somewhat use road NavMesh along side keeping in mind if tanks wreckage or tank traps are present on the road.

which, if there are, and therefore their path is locked, the user will be notified that the AI didn’t managed to reach the destination, and therefore hop out and defend the car until the squad leader is near ( or the user it self can hold X and the ai will fall back ).

Why all of this?

this system it’s quite usefull for the following:

  • Enginners.
    in order to not waste time, the player can somewhat send the AI squad to the front somewhere near and in cover, and the player can build what the need. once the player is done, he can switch back to the others ai and continue with the assault. and the enginner can live longer if needed a bit further in the back.

  • Shooting while Moving.
    self explanatory, the game has this great mechanic, it’s a bit of a shame that we can’t fully use it.
    so yeah, weather your AI are thinking about the driving, with this system, you can think about the shooting.

  • calling artillery

  • look at the map in the meanwhile

  • tank
    this system can be usefull for tankers, so that if they don’t know the map, or it’s harder for them to drive, the ai can somewhat help for it.
    or eventually, the player can hop out, and order to the tank to move somewhere else. so in the meanwhile he can do something else ( without binocles, i understand that he can’t do much. but still, perhaps capture the point, while order the driver to move in that area ) but unlike cars, it’s best if the tank crew DO NOT HOP OUT. or very bad things can happen.

anyway, so yeah, that’s basically it for this suggestion.

let me know what you folks think about it, and how can be eventually tweaked/improved.

considerations:

  • What if players send their AI outside the map?

luckely, the game already thought about that, and AI will not station outside the area. there is like an invisible wall for them. ( that they cannot cross of course ).

  • What happens if the marker is inside a house ?

for cars, it’s quite usefull if the AI will jump out of the car, and wait in that said house.

weather for tankers, they just wait in the road somewhere near the mark. ( without actually colliding with buildings or expose side armor ).

I like Shooting while Moving

I don’t simply agree this suggestion.

I will cause vehicle waste. and vehicles are not respawn.

Calling artillery is already possible during driving.

They could add the ability to control the car when your bot is driving, otherwise it’s absurd, it’s not necessary to sit on the tank for the driver.

I have mixed feelings about this idea.
But if you want this, then I would advise to use something like this instead of the current map markers:

I don’t like the idea of everybody spaming markers that mean basically nothing to me. Mortar users at least place them near the enemy.

regarding your suggestion, this would imply too much work.

as we saw with the past suggestions including new buttons, new features simple as different icons, or even an opacity changer looks, it’s impossible. let alone rts mode.

but considering that they managed to add behaviors, i’m not sure would be alot harder to make one for vehicles.

they can still use their own markers.

Yellow Marker = User marker
Blue Marker = Friendly marker

Yes it would require much work, but it would open up new posibilities of commanding your squad.
No pain, no gain.

So far they managed only to promise us to add behaviours :upside_down_face:

That is what I ment. My problem is that when you implement your idea, this marker can mean: enemy presence, mortar coordinates or a path point. The meaning of this marker becomes quite inconsistance.

edit: i really like the idea for a button to hop out of tank alone and leave crew inside, as if you hop out by the time you issue the command to re-enter vehicle, if they are already engaged in combat they are useless and dead within a second.

well, ai are not meant to used vehicle’s guns.

because, veterans crew might be deadlier and accurate than players.

already a thing? if you exit tank all crew members will all exit, or i’m missing something? if it already exists it does not show on controls.

No not use tank guns, if they exit vehicle and enemy is close by even if you press X to order them “control vehicle” they will keep firing toward enemy and disregard your order. end up dying obviously.

red orchestra has a quite good model to this, still. i’m think it will be very low cost benefecial. we need other stuffs sunner that this. drinving like BF a tank for now can be enough for alot of time.

tanks got tactics and strategy. there is a proper way to fight in a tank, still it is very simple compared to the complexity of infatry tactics. and i’m stand for Devs build the infantry ones, has bots doing quite fine has crewman in the sistem we got now.

if you hop out the tank, look at it, and than press X, it will order your units to hop in any vehicles that you are facing.

than, they will get on.

the only reason why you do that currently, it’s to save your teammate, and you can jump down to repair the tank without losing tank crew in the meanwhile.

ah yeah thats what i meant with :

if enemy is very close when you press X they will not go in vehcile they will just keep firing their smgs towards enemy :frowning: and just die, hope they will add a hot key to just leave vehicle alone and leave them inside tank.

red orchestra AI use tanks indipendently though, they can use guns as well.

but enlisted one, not so much. and i can somewhat… understand.

well, they aren’t building for the infantry that well. and judging by what you say, you’re not a tanker person, which it’s totally fine, but it’s far from being " fine ".
