Main Idea:
the idea is simple, ( easier to say than done i have to admit ).
it would be usefull if bots that are on vehicles, the squad leader can use an additional command in the wheel to order them to go at that specific marker. but only when inside vehicles:
And a little pop-up shows up, and tells the player whenever the AI reached the destination:
( should be different than mine, i didn’t had time to make the glow/bloom perfect xd )
after that, the AI should hop out immediatly after they reached the destination and start seeking cover and eventually, ( if under fire ) return fire. best thing would be that after the mark disappear, will be automatically replaced with a hold order. ( so that AI will not run back to you just to get shoot in the back )
so yeah, this is how it should work.
you press x for your AI to hop on the vehicle, Press M to open the map, Leave a marker by clicking Right Click, and than, open the Command/Order Wheel and select the first option on the top.
i do understand that this system would require quite some work. but it would be very usefull. and in order to work, they have to somewhat use road NavMesh along side keeping in mind if tanks wreckage or tank traps are present on the road.
which, if there are, and therefore their path is locked, the user will be notified that the AI didn’t managed to reach the destination, and therefore hop out and defend the car until the squad leader is near ( or the user it self can hold X and the ai will fall back ).
Why all of this?
this system it’s quite usefull for the following:

Enginners.
in order to not waste time, the player can somewhat send the AI squad to the front somewhere near and in cover, and the player can build what the need. once the player is done, he can switch back to the others ai and continue with the assault. and the enginner can live longer if needed a bit further in the back. -
Shooting while Moving.
self explanatory, the game has this great mechanic, it’s a bit of a shame that we can’t fully use it.
so yeah, weather your AI are thinking about the driving, with this system, you can think about the shooting. -

look at the map in the meanwhile

tank
this system can be usefull for tankers, so that if they don’t know the map, or it’s harder for them to drive, the ai can somewhat help for it.
or eventually, the player can hop out, and order to the tank to move somewhere else. so in the meanwhile he can do something else ( without binocles, i understand that he can’t do much. but still, perhaps capture the point, while order the driver to move in that area ) but unlike cars, it’s best if the tank crew DO NOT HOP OUT. or very bad things can happen.
anyway, so yeah, that’s basically it for this suggestion.
let me know what you folks think about it, and how can be eventually tweaked/improved.

considerations:
- What if players send their AI outside the map?
luckely, the game already thought about that, and AI will not station outside the area. there is like an invisible wall for them. ( that they cannot cross of course ).
- What happens if the marker is inside a house ?
for cars, it’s quite usefull if the AI will jump out of the car, and wait in that said house.
weather for tankers, they just wait in the road somewhere near the mark. ( without actually colliding with buildings or expose side armor ).
