A way to enhance the current UI of artillery

image

The current UI for artillery is not very user-friendly and is massively outdated. Especially now when we have so many different operations to choose between, and when some operations are available and some are not at a given time. Confusion is the word I’m looking for here.

Before DF launched the rocket artillery update with the supply crate drop option, one couldn’t open the artillery window if it was busy. You got this information right away.
busy
Which was a good thing.

But now, since supply drop is always available you will of course be able to open the artillery window.
But that creates another problem which only causes, frustration, confusion, and lost of valuable time.
You think the artillery is ready, when it’s in matter of fact not.

Example:

You think the arty is ready to be called in. Only to realize it’s busy. Nothing in the UI informs you about this.

Another problem some players expressed is that it is easy to misclick, picking the not intended operation.

Suggestion:

  1. Make it clear and visible (icons) what options you can pick and choose.
  2. Make it clear and visible if the options is currently available or not.
  3. Give all operations a hotkey command. Also make it possible to change between the operation by using your mouse/controller.

Another less important suggestion:
Consider renaming this (since you today can do more things than just regular artillery)

What I hate about current artillery is that order of “operations” is not unified for all squads the same way.

Sometimes the rocket artillery is on 3rd place, sometimes it’s 4th…

Current state of radioman squad truly feels very unpolished.

yeah ikr?

Misclicked so many times. I personally think this should be prioritized.
Enrage me more or less every game.

Completely agree. And like Adamnpee has said, the order of radio call ins isn’t standard and changes every time a new item is added. I have called in the supply crate so many times when I meant to call in smoke.

This would be a big improvement for radio squads! I end up cycling through twice more often than not and also call the wrong thing more often than I’d like.

Before the current arty changes, the map/UI would simply show you that you couldn’t deploy arty whilst it was deployed by someone else by removing the arty symbol. Personally, I think they should bring that back.

yeah, but the problem with that is - how are you gonna be able to drop a supply crate?

Personally, I think crate drops should have a seperate cooldown, preferably shorter, than arty.

but they have that already.

Fair enough, I wasn’t aware of that.

I agree with a lot of this, I have even protested in the past on the launch of rocket artillery that the ammo should have been its own separate option. This way we could have gone back to the old style of artillery, But I would have named it “ordinance strike” for everything that’s not an ammo box or smoke. This way both the ammo box and smoke would have their own option within the artillery selection wheel. Makes sense to have rocket strike, bombs, and regular artillery under one option then having smoke and ammo box under a tactical option beneath it.

They do need to unify the position for each option, I don’t want to be choosing option two “rocket strike” with one faction and choose option two with another faction using the same type of squad (say both are rocket artillery events squads) only to get smoke. Each should be polished and refined so everything is in the same spot for all squads and all factions This includes factions that are not artillery based since they have the option for artillery strikes via a radio man. The whole system is archaic and needs work, This shows it now more than ever.

It’s even worse on console

also move smoke to ammo box slot so they share cd together and we can use rockets, bombers or classic strikes but also have a some smoke cover for infantry

IKR!, FUCKING HAVE CONSISTENSY, IS NOT THAT FUCKING HARD!, like how can u be a bitch so bad u make the order be COMPLETLY randomized, for no reason!, and yes this is obv intentional, there is no way they just randomly said “yeah lets make the arty strike options be completly randomized between factions for no godamn reasons”, no, they SPECIFICALLY made sure that it was this way!

ffs, why!
