Since the Veterans Box is coming to an end, I feel like it is now an appropriate time to discuss opinions on how the Veterans Box performed. There are both Good and Bad aspects of the Veterans Box, and I will be sharing my opinions which are based off of opening over 1200 boxes (approximately 6 million silver). My opinions are not hard facts and others may have had a different experience with the Veterans Box. It would be great to have a healthy discussion regarding the Veterans Box in order to collect data in order to create a better, more balanced box for the future.
PROS
Price - The price point per box is perfect, if it were anymore it would be too expensive, and any less it would be too lucrative.
Soldier Appearance - The opportunity to get 10 of these for 5000 silver is great! In my opinion this is one of the best options to pull from the box.
Event Weapon - The odds of pulling a weapon feels reasonable. The only complaint that I have is pulling a hammer from the pool hurts.
Unique Soldier - The odds of pulling a unique soldier feels reasonable.
CONS
Callsign Orders - There’s nothing wrong with getting callsign orders every now and then, but a 12% chance to get 5 of these means you quickly accumulate an unnecessary amount. I have over 1300 of these orders and will never use them. I would have rather pulled 1000 silver from the box than these useless callsign orders. The only thing to redeem this otherwise useless currency is to either remove them by merging them with Soldier Appearance orders, allow callsign orders to be sold, or give them the ability to change the name and voice of soldiers to Italian and British.
Weapon Upgrade Order - Weapon upgrade orders used to be very good as you could get your final upgrade on a T5 gun for “free”. Now a T5 weapon costs only 6704 silver (with 40% discount) to upgrade a gun from 0 to 3 stars. So that’s spending 5000 silver on a 3% chance to get a weapon order that shaves 4021 silver off if you are using the best strategy to save silver (upgrading from 2 stars to 3 stars). This is an insultingly low savings for how “rare” the order portrays itself to be. There is a very easy solution to this problem however. Allow Weapon Upgrade Orders to upgrade a weapon fully from 0 to 3 stars. This would now price the order at a maximum of 11170 silver for an un-upgraded T5 weapon (or 6704 for a weapon with -40% cost upgrades). This would make the 3% pull chance in the box feel better, as well as improve the current outdated Weapon Upgrade Order.
Vehicle Upgrade Order - Pulling this at 2% hurts, knowing you could have instead received an event vehicle. Its an alright Order card, but not good enough for a 2% drop chance. It should be grouped with the Weapon Upgrade Order at 3%(Weapon 75% Vehicle 25%).
Vehicle Decals - I did enjoy getting a some more of my favorite decals, but after getting my least favorite one for the 8th time I was understandably irritated. Obviously what I don’t like other may, but I think a future restriction on how many of each decal you can receive should be implemented, lets say 4. Then if you were to roll a 5th you are refunded your 5000 silver (or maybe a little extra). This decal restriction would reset with each box.
Event Squads - I got the two squads I was missing (Charlton and PPK) in my first 99 boxes (495,000 silver). I was honestly disappointed by how easy it was to obtain these squads. 1% drop chance is just too high in my opinion.
Event Vehicles - The same issue as the event squads. I needed 11 event/twitchdrop vehicles and got all of them far faster than I expected. 2% chance seems too high in my opinion.
Here are some additional opinions I have on the Veterans Box that don’t pertain to items in the box, but the Veterans Box as a whole.
Future Veteran Box Content - As a first box it was nice to have all items available as possible rewards. However in the future I think boxes should be more specialized with fewer event rewards. This will allow players to choose whether or not to spend their silver on the current box, or save up their silver and wait for the next.
A Box for Veterans - A controversial opinion, but one I still wish to share. This box should be FOR veteran players, not for the new/intermediate player who just started the game. As such, putting a requirement for the player to have one (or all) tech tree(s) completed in order to access the box seems reasonable. That way players who still need their silver are not distracted by the veterans box, and encourages them to keep playing to complete their factions research tree.
Veteran Box Frequency - Once the box leaves the shop I hope it is not seen again for a while. Future Veterans Boxes should be a rare sight in order to keep the contents inside valuable.
