A slight rework of penetration indicator (no shell drop)

Currently pen indicator shows both penetrarion chance and where shell will hit (effectively the “bullet drop”).

How about this:
Make pen indicator fixed at the center of the sights and add a range finder so it no linger shows the place of impact. Add a range finder that can be ported from WT (at least I hope).
To shoot at longer ranges, player will have to aim at the target (or ground near it), use the range finder, sights will automatically adjust the zeroing, aim again and fire. There can be also a gunner/commander perk that makes range finding quicker.

This will increase immersion just a bit without damaging the balance.
(Theoretically it may also prevent sniping enemy tanks through the bushes thanks to pen indicator being a mini wallhack currentlly, but I don’t promise anything.)

I know such comments will occure so NO, removing pen indicator is not an option. Enlisted is a casual game and I’m not going to learn whitch one of my 15 tanks can pen which one of the enemy 15 tanks is some super specyfic places.

That would be extremely confusing for any new player, I think.
But I’d need to see it in a game. So I could make up my mind.

Bad idea. Because some tanks have falloff indicator for AP and HE and some (German) have not, so this would affect balance of the game.

They are already confused, there were many posts like “why my shell hits the lamppost” with pen indicator on the lamppost.
But that’s the issue of the tutorial (it doesn’t exist) and not the mechanic itself.

Because it’s glitching everytime you’re near to some object.
But that’s not intentional unlike to what you have suggested.

Looks more like ranges for zeoring the sights at the distance. But I’m no tank expert.
Also we have so much made up BS that nobody would care.

No, dude was simply aiming at his target but because sights and barrel aren’t in the same place, his gun was aiming at the lamppost. Triangulation and shit.

But I agree that pen indicator sometimes glitches.

And it’s hella annoying. I hope it’s going to be polished one day.

Theoretically my idea may help with that as pen indicator would be a beam instead of a curved shell trajectory so computation would be simpler. Theoretically.

From left to right - falloff of MG, falloff of AP and on the right side - falloff of HE.

So this would put German tanks in disadvantage :-1:

Except germans also had range settings on their sights (numbers around the sight)? And the game will automatically use the correct settings for player when he uses range finder. So I don’t see how they are in a dissadvantage since its literalry only a visual.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Your “automatically” means “use the mouse wheel to adjust the distance”.

Thrash idea.

Trash reading abilities.

I’m genuinely surprised most people don’t already have this knowledge from WT

Shell drop is actually important. In fact, a good tank player can use the current system to know if he is able to hook a shot behind a piece of cover or not. I actually do this quite frequently.

If you just had a straight shot, this would be immensely harder to do.

As far as the indicator that tells if you will succeed in penning or not, I believe this is a very necessary tool. It actually helps to detect cheaters believe it or not. If you are laying into a tank that shows green indicator, but he’s not taking damage, its pretty clear there is something going on.

I will agree that using it to wallhack through cover needs some work.
The indicator should ONLY appear if the target is in clear view. With the exception of IF the target is marked by an ally, then at most the indicator will show up as yellow or red. Yellow being that it is not guaranteed, but has a possibility of penning.

What if - instead, the indicator would not be a default mechanic - but rather a tanker perk, that would need you to choose over other useful perks.

Personally I dont need this indicator at all, and since recent patches it is also not as broken anymore and doesn’t really let you use it to spot tanks behind visual cover anymore, well it still happens from time to time, but I have noticed aiming through bushed to be very difficult to do nowadays.

I mean I already played H&G without indicator so whatever…

You still will be able to lob shots. You just won’t be able to use pen indicator effectively as a wallhack to detect and destroy an enemy you can’t even see.

In H&G you didn’t have to aim for weakspots.
