A Gamemode without planes, or

Well, considering the fact that planes are not only annoying but quite hard to deal with I’ve been wondering how to fix this issue, specially because a team with good pilots can quite decimate the other team without much effort, and while it’s fun to wreck the other team, when you are the one dealing with those planes it becomes not only quite annoying, but also frustrating.
And while yes, I do think that the proper fix would be to reduce the payload of planes and the explosion radious, and also adding friendly damage, and also buff the AA adding also static positions to it, right now while they work on those fixes I think that a gamemode that does not let you use planes would be rather nice to have, it would at least, make the game less frustrating.
And before some smartpants tell me to “get in a plane” to deal with a plane, I would like to just say, well yes, that’s an obvious thing to do, isn’t it? But what if the fighter slot is used by a teammate, and also he is just doing CAS istead of fighter stuff. And no, the AA as it is right now, does not reall work against the planes. And also, that forces non-premium players to use their only vehicle slot in a fighter, which I don’t think it’s good.

And well, would this maybe split even more the playerbase? Well, yes, I think it would, but it will give the players more choice, I mean, who doesn’t get tired of getting spawn killed by a bomber almost every 5 minutes in a map? So people who would like to play focusing more on infantry and tanks could have their gamemode, and the ones who like to bomb the enemy spawn and just keep bombing, could also have their own gamemode.

As the state of planes and pilots right now, I really do believe they don’t fit in the overall game and have the potential to ruin the new players or overall players experience. I mean, with tanks you can easily just sneak behind them and use TNT. But with planes, even when you land a few shots with AA they just keep bombing you, and if you fail to shot it down it’ll just blow you up in the next pass, which is quite frustrating. They could add special objectives for planes, but again, I think they do not fit very well in the state of the game.

OR, instead we can rework how planes work overall, like adding a similar system of War Thunder Arcade battles of tanks, in which you can spawn a plane after killing or even objectives, also when you will spawn a CAS or a bomber, the other team gets alerted so they can hide and also spawn a fighter to deal with the bomber. It’s just an idea I had, and while it could work it could also not.

And before plane players get defensive, well, I am not asking to remove planes completely nor nerf them to the ground (although this last one would make me pretty happy :wink: ), all I ask is to have a gamemode just without planes, with tanks and other vehicles, but just not planes, because right now, in the state of the game, just pressing space in your plane over the objective it’s the best way to win matches and get a lot of kills without much effort.

I do feel sometimes that planes can take away the fun of combat, especially if you are in a good firefight.

Agree’d.

Once you know spawn points / common paths etc bombing becomes easymode. If artillery has TK’s then so should planes tbh - might make them more tactical if there are downsides.

i just start to hate the planes and my motivation to play further is going down and down. It is just not funny if there is a plane with 200 kills at the end of the map and you cant do anything against that. WTF? please add some stationary anti air guns or what ever, that it becomes possible to kill a plane. also: the bombs should kill also the teammates!!! why my artillery kills my mates and the bombs of the plane not?
One more idea: the normal MGs, stationary and what you carry with you, should also damage planes a little bit.
Or just add an AA-Tank in the campaigns!
Please give the infantery just a chance to kill a plane.

If you have been following the latest dev blogs, they may be hinting around about custom made lobbies that will allow us to build battles with or without specific weapons …

its argued by pilot mains it could be Infantry killer.

So are tanks and planes but much more effective at it than AA guns would be

you could make the SPAAs gun depression low so that it couldn’t shoot targets at ground level. You would never be able to keep them from shooting dudes in 2nd story windows or anything. I like the idea of SPAAs.

For no air or tank…I think they could do a really cool campaign focused in Greece/Crete without armor or air. Italians vs Greeks, but I highly doubt the devs are going to take the time to make a faction of weapons for one Campaign.

Not sure SPAA will be the scourge to Infantry that everyone believes they will be … They are very lightly armored and so most can be penetrated by large caliper rounds.

Also ATR’s and currently useless handheld AT weapons should be of great effect against them. In addition to grenades, det packs, arty and mortars

Tanks and other SPAA’s will also be able to deal with them with minimum effort , so If they try and get close enough to engage infantry I don’t think they will last long.

On the other hand if they stay well behind the main battle area with the intent to fulfill their primary role which is anti-air, they should be quite effective …

ah yes, my favorite menace to infantry, not the tank with 100mm of sloped frontal armor and three machine guns, not the plane with 6 500 pound bombs, but the literal truck that can be pierced by rifle bullets

nevermind that the russian gun trucks have no armor, and that the infantry terror can be curbed instantly by capping their ammo stupidly low to force them to stay near resupply points, or even just a 10 seconds long “deployment” feature, IE units have to park and set up the platform, or that a single normal grenade could easily wipe out almost all of the truck’s crew, easily disabling it regardless.
