A bit more realistic tank controls

  1. Giving orders as tank commander
When TC gives orders, there should be a short voiceline (“driver, forward” or sth) that would last ~1s. After this the tank would do the thing.
So basically all actions given by TC would have a ~1s delay that can be “countered” with skill and practise while making driving a tank a bit more realistic and immersive.

  2. Loading shells.
Personally I’d prefer if I could choose a type of a round and give an order to load it.
As this is my personall preference, maybe make it an option in the settings?
(It also would be nice to have an indicator that round is not loaded to avoid annoying situations.)

  3. Complete rework of cupola / viewports
They are awfull and akward to use. This renders them impractical/useless during dynamic engagements.

    My proposal:
Commander has freelook by default (but stil has the aiming “circle”) and can turn 360* inside the cupola.
By pressing a button (RMB or shift for example) he can order the turret to turn in the pointed direction.
Now kind of a wild one. By holding the button, TC can order the AI gunner to track the marked target. But knowing devs it will be a buggy mess so better not to do it.

  4. Voicelines.
I already mentioned orders given by TC but it would be nice to also have other soldiers talk. Things like “destroyed”, “fire”, “we were hit”, “it bounced”, “enemy infantry at xyz” (buggy mess allert) etc.

Take note:
I’m just throwing ideas without concidering overall balance because who cares anyway?

The delay is probably a dealbreaker to most but everything else seems reasonable and fun, especially the voicelines, nation-specific ofc, of members reporting hits.
A question does arise, do you still hear voicelines/commands if there’s only 1 crew member?

I don’t know why a short delay would be much of an issue. After all enemy also has it and it can be countered almost completelly.

You shouldn’t. But knowing devs there would be such bug/feature at some point.

You played RO2, have you?

I wish.
I’m sadly to young and live in a too ex-warsaw pact country.

But from the videos I saw it looks like a lot of fun.

I think I would start with More Realistic:

Ammo (types)

MG Overheat and Reload time.

Penetration effects

Stop HE being a better tank Killer than AP

Armor values

Yea, how about fix the tank gameplay first, then add all of this stuff.

The Crosshair of the tank it doesn’t allign with the built in sight. and lets not forget at the fact that the tank like to bug itself out when in bad surfaces. Ghost shells happen more often than in War Thunder (don’t give me the “this is enlisted not war thunder” excuse, like its a normal feature in the game)

I say this because your suggestion is exactly how it worked here.

If you selected the commander seat, you could have access to all tank functions… at the cost of a small delay.

You want to move forward? Commander shouted “move forward” and when you released the forward key, shouted “stop!”.

There ofc was a 1 or 2 seconds delay. Commander could even give specific commands such as “move forward 5 meters!” Which was useful if you wanted to move cautiously while using cover.

You could use the driver seat directly and negate the delay (thought you heard Commander shouts following your actions) but were confined to driver hatch view.

I like the idea of giving orders and voice lines but how is it gonna work if I select for example the gunner

Do we need a delay for other crew members too or should I be able to move freely with a selected crew member

Comander: right right right

Random guy in drivers seat: left

We need a voicemod for voicelines (and mg42 sound)

When you command the gunner, commands are given only to the driver as you are directly controling the gunner.
You may say that gunner cakes command of the tank.

The driver seat works similarly.

Voice lines for tankers are great. Yet we had one in the past once you changed the ammo type. It was definitely cool. No idea why it disappeared.

Ahah! Yes, good times! That was when you played with other players in a tank. Could lead to very chaotic moments

Idk how I feel about this, honestly they’ve been slowly and subtlety giving tanks nerfs. Like the ridiculous MG overheat and shell ricochets being completely over exaggerated.
Plus one of my primary pet peeves as an armored main is how quick and responsive you need to be to counter the kamikaze explosive pack users, I imagine if they slowed down crew movement in tanks they would become even more vulnerable on the battlefield. Could lead to tanks being even campier and sitting even further back than some already are.

I do like this though a simple yet immersive changed, like the historically accurate gunner optics. Just a nice touch :ok_hand:

I’d like this aswell. Just giving armor more flexibility is a massive thumbs up for me

ABSOLUTELY! I made a thread about this a while ago when I first got on the forums. I think cupolas on tanks like the Tiger, Panther, Sherman Jumbo aren’t bad they atleast give you the option to look 360 degrees it would be nice to get a free look option though. However the tanks that just have a single piece periscope like the M4A2, Jagdpanzer IV series, Jagdpanther, M5… desperately need rework. The fact that you have literally no way of looking behind you at all is ridiculous. Even when you look out od your hatch in say the Panzer IV/70 you can’t even turn your Commander’s head around to see where you’re backing up and it’s so damn irritating.

It would also be nice if they could diversify the views from tank sights the commander specifically. They’ve actually done very well with the gunner sights, props to the dev team on that one they did nail it there.
The commander though should see a similar treatment depending on the vision device being used
For example in the Panzer IV/70

That’s what you see. Looks like you’re using the commanders scissor binocular sight
Snapchat-1605849165
However what your actually looking through is rotating X1 periscope in his hacth
Snapchat-1961138925

I say why not both? Rework the commanders view and let him use a non magnified rectangular sight in his hatch that can be rotated around for a better view of his surroundings and then he could switch to the scissors periscope for a more magnified view for range

PS sorry this is a little long winded, just very passionate about tanks and armored combat in the game

I really need an option to choose how many shells to carry for each type of shells, not to carry same amount of AP and HE, which is really ridiculous.

This would slow down tanks in general, while infantry is still too fast and deadly. Bad idea
