A Basic "Place Your Mines Around Here" Command

So I don’t know about the rest of ya’ll; I do use both AP Mines and AT Mines. The only problem I have with them is that it takes forever to place them because you have to switch between your soldiers one by one by one to do so. Sometimes it is the right call to set up these minefields for your enemies but it eats up so much time.

I purpose a new command and it is a simple command where if you throw down a mine somewhere; you look at it and be able to give orders for your soldiers in your squad to use the selected mine they have and placed it around somewhat closely to it. The mines would be placed close enough that the victim will suffer casualties should they run into that area but far apart enough where the mines won’t “daisy chain” each other (ie: one mine won’t blow up another).

It would be a very basic and simple command that would save a ton of headaches and I’m surely can’t be the only one who has thought of this.

This command would useful, but I think it would probably lead to all your mines being clumped in a small area, and if the bots somehow understood how to place the mines semi-intelligently I worry that mines would become much more prolific, which is not something I would like.

Oh yeah, mine trolling. It never stops advances or change the course of the battle, but it is good at pissing off other players.

Bots can be configured to drop at mines on roads and ap mines inbetween doorways/trenches, or just drop randomly in a 15-20 meters around the player for simplicity, like they do now with rallies/ammo.
Stuff like that would really slow the game down for the attackers unless explosive friendly fire were added. Not a lot of people would dig that and others would, idk, kind of a big ask if you think about it

Personally I use them, but then again I main engineers. I basically never see other people using them though.

From my experience, I don’t think the solution is making the AI place them for you. Yes, it can be time consuming, but its something you have to commit the time to in order to do it right.
I will say that my suggestion regarding mines will still have to be a mine pouch that lets you hold up to 3 per character. As if you are taking the time to set up mines, it might as well be a minefield, not just a couple of lone mines.

As much as people complain about mines, its not like they permanently hold back enemies. If you only put them on the main path, sure they can get annoying, but simply due to spacing requirements and the fact you have to be in that location to place them, this strategy doesn’t really last for long.
Combining enough mines in flank positions with decent fortifications can result in a decent defense. Especially now that they have finally fixed flamethrowers being able to hit through walls. It definitely helps to slow the flamethrowers advances because the player is always in control of the flametrooper, and they inevitably are running in first, meaning they are usually the first to die.

Like I said though, is due to requirements of spacing, you have to spread them out, so even if we were allowed to have more, I don’t see it critically hindering attackers advances like so many believe, especially because it would mean they have to give up their precious grenade and ammo pouches to do so.

They can be pretty influential when used as an early warning system, like placing mines in a semi-popular flank or side route and when you get a kill from one you know the enemies are trying to exploit it

I think at this rate we’d need an entire ‘squad command’ interface, with the players being able to set the fortification plans and other stuff, where squad-mates and maybe other allies go ahead to build/dig it.

While I can imagine that working on PC with mouse and keyboard, I’m afraid console folks are going to be at a disadvantage…

I use fortifications. But never used mines, aside from plant-able TNTs a few times, with limited success.

That’s why they don’t have to play on crossplay with PC. So I don’t think it’s relevant issue.

Maybe…?
Not sure if I want to worsen the loading and matchmaking times.

Anyway i’m afraid that after the merge AP will be nerfed
I can already see team of sweater 10 vs 10 who place mine everywhere and the same sweater opening crying thread about AP mines being placed everywhere

They can easily “nerf” them without any stats changes => putting them on higher BR to protect innocent newcomers.

As it is currently I NEVER see people placing mines more than 1 or 2 at a time. I’m the ONLY person other than maybe an occasional buddy use decent amounts of mines. Most people don’t want to take the time to set them, which I get, but I’m usually setting up defenses a little ways back anyways. Trenched wire, with AP mines behind it or in the open pathways, and Czech Hedgehogs with AT mines for tanks.

For more interesting combats rather than a run-and-gun shitshow, the proper defenses and mines are necessary. Otherwise everyone just sprints across the open front and shoves a flamethrower in the door.

Would be awesome, it took me 2 Minutes to plant all Mines yesterday with my 9Men Volkssturm
and cost me 8 Men.
After that… a Artillerie strike did destroy all of the mines in 10 seconds…

Something ill look at mentioning to the devs.
