A backpack that ONLY Engineers can equip, that increase holding capacity of Mines

I had suggested a backpack for this function (increased mines) previously, but through feedback have adjusted the idea, and am pitching the idea again.

A backpack that increases mine capacity to 2, and 3 for the large.
Make it require an additional perk point on their “perk tree”, must have backpacks unlocked prior.
Let’s face it, the only character that should be capable of setting up defenses that this would enable, is engineers. For all other characters, 1 mine works just fine. Minefields would only really be able to be made by engineers (and an engineer squad). This also removes their capability of having multiple Medkits or grenades, if this is equipped instead.

In the scope of historical references, mines were rarely used as just one here and there, they were put down as minefields.

Considering that usually when a defending team gets pushed back, there usually is very little resistance on the push to the next objective. Only remnants that are retreating and a little bit of sniper fire. The ability to have minefields to thin out attackers either on the direct push, or on flanks, would be extremely valuable.

The mines themselves are still fairly expensive, so acquiring 2-3 per person would be a cost of 5-8 silver orders each. (While for veteran players this isn’t a problem, it would be a hefty investment for newer players.)

I will also note, in many of the campaigns it is quite difficult to grind up to the point of getting engineer 2 squads to gain access to MG nests, so mid level players could really use the extra firepower to thin out enemy numbers.

I don’t use mines (for now at least)…
How good are they, anyway?

They are mainly super annoying because they are super hard to see a lot of the time but realistically because of the low number and low expo range its not super useful

In my personal opinion:
Currently mines are more of a joke than anything. AP mines are really only ever used to protect a sniper nest, and serve as an alarm system more than an actual deterrent. AT mines, i have NEVER seen actually take out a tank. Usually if you use hedgehogs to try to guide them into it, they either see it too easy and destroy it, OR have someone just remove the hedgehogs. (That is if your own teammates don’t remove them first!)

Being able to place a multitude would be more effective than just simply for kills. Even the psychological effect would be effective. Think of it this way: if you set up a minefield on a flank, and the enemy started losing troops to it, do you think they would keep trying to go that way? Or would they divert into a different route? Same idea with tanks. It would change the way that they come at an objective, rather than freely flanking as they wish.

Honestly the only way I see AT mines used is on below AP mines to make it more explosive and yeah I want to see more mines used or at least slightly more useful.

Actually the AT mines act much like the AT weapons. By this I mean they use a shaped charge with much LESS radius. For example, have you ever tried using PIAT, Panzerfaust, Bazooka, tank Armor Piercing shells, etc against infantry? It’s not very effective. Because the blast radius is much smaller, but much more powerful. The wider blast radius actually come from anti- personnel weapons.

To the contrary, I had a game where I got 10 vehicle kills, 5 from mines, 3 from bombings, and 2 from dogfighting

The ones from mines, I’m curious, did you put them down ahead of time or right next to the tanks?

All ahead of time. AT are easy to place while defending and are useful in a retreat.

Interesting. I think another issue that presents itself in my case is most tanks hang way back, which would make it easier to place mines, IF I knew where the objective was going next. It’s like the normal issue with engineers, if you set up expecting to go to one place, it ends up going the other, wasting your efforts.

Well I do know where the objective goes next and I just put in on the road there.
I hard focus the Germans in Moscow rn and I know almost all the maps by heart. But sometimes I can’t get greyzone campers with them so I’ll bomb them with a Stuka.
