I would love to see the addition of the 81mm M1 mortar for the US and the 81mm Type 97mm mortar for Japan. The Soviets and Axis both have 81/82mm mortars, so it would only be fair if Japan and the Allies got them too.
I would also like to see a Mortarman 2 squad for the US and Japan to go along with it, because Japan needs anything to fill out it’s tech tree, and one of the most famous uses of mortars was by the US Marines, in particular by Eugene Sledge (who would make a great unique soldier) and the rest of his unit, so an American mortar squad would be a nice addition alongside the current British squad.

They’re an integral part of modern warfare and any WW2 game that claims to be realistic should have infantry mortars. Plus they encourage good teamwork and communication, since without line of sight they often require good callouts from your team.

mortar players just sit in the greyzone and blow up control points with 0 effort whatsoever and there’s literally no counter to them, i guess guerillas are going to be changing that up, but i dont give a shit about realism, mortar players are excruciatingly annoying to deal with and are a ridiculously cowardly play style next to sniping in a bush 100m away from the objective
It takes a lot more than that to be consistently successful with a mortar. It may work that way on open air maps with ample cover to hide your mortar squads behind, but there are plenty of maps that either have the objectives in buildings, or have terrible cover so that mortar squads can easily be countered by snipers, and on other maps you can counter them quite easily with aircraft if you know the general area they’re in. To do well consistently on those maps requires much more skill and better communication with your team. And let people play how they want to play, the mortars are an aspect that not many games have and they add a level of realism and are fun to use. If you don’t care for it then there are plenty of other games without mortars you can play.

I mean its also super simple to just not walk into the series of explosions since most people on mortar tend to just shit their entire load onto one spot. Mortars are really not that powerful.
But yeah Mortarman 2 and 81mm mortars for Japan and the US would be great.
