r/HuntShowdown - a close - up of a gun 1884 Spencer-Lee rifle, a pump-action rifle using detachable box magazines. No photo description available. t’s time for the reveal of yesterday’s “guess this gun” out of the IMT collection. This is Russell J. Turner’s semi-automatic prototype conversion of an SMLE rifle chambered in .303. Not too surprisingly, there were a ton of correct answers from followers!
Turner, a Pennsylvania resident, designed this semi-automatic long stroke gas piston rifle with a side locking tilting bolt for the Canadian government as a possible option for re-purposing bolt action rifles in military stock. In 1941, the Turner was tested in Canada in subzero -25 degree weather, where it performed better than the M1 Garand next to it. The Turner has an adjustable three position gas port at the end of the barrel, allowing an operational advantage in extreme cold weather.
Although the Turner performed well in Canadian tests, it did not go anywhere due to its complexity. This is the only currently known example. Luckily, this exact gun can be played with in the popular Battlefield V video game.

I’m pretty sure the Turner is already a premium squad for purchase rn

Turner SMLE

The Turner semi-automatic SMLE conversion is a weapon equipped on all premium Allied Radio operator squad members in Battle of Tunisia, namely the 34th Signal Company, 34th Infantry Division. This American squad obviously were never equipped with this experimental weapons, which in real life was intended for the Canadian Army. -------------------------------------------------------good catch, my bad
