20mm AAA vs paratrooper

Me vs enemy…several hits with 20mm cannon on the same guy…does nothing…

Enemy vs me…my whole squad wiped out with rifles before they touch the ground…

Yeah, paratroopers in descent have strange damage calculations: they can withstand 4-5 rounds of 20mm, but a bolt-action shot from a 30-06 round will kill them instantly.

For reference A well placed BA shoot on the engine or wing can shot down a less/no armored plane…

So, is there anyone besides John Wick who can actually do that?

I think it’s about the HP of soldiers and planes.

Soldiers have much more HP than plane parts so AA gun needs to deal less damage to keep it balanced. But this causes AA to also deal less damage to soldiers (relatively).
And the other way around, rifles do damage balanced vs soldiers so they demolish planes with much less HP.

At least that’s what I suspect. I also suspect it’s conected with WT model so it can’t be changed easily (CBT players may remember how hard it was for devs do make AA vs plane balanced).
But that’s all just speculation.

Yeah, it is obvious that the damage calculations are complicated for some reason to balance.
Soldiers fighting on the ground would be killed instantly if hit by AA.
Only paratroopers on descent survive it, so there must be some special damage calculation (treated as an aircraft?) for them.

Actually no AA should one shot them, probably this is a bug or some sorts of strange unwanted damage calculation

Oh, really? I haven’t managed to hit a soldier on the ground with AA (I’m too lazy) so I thought they also survive several shots.
This means my theory is false.

My experience was a few months ago, so maybe it’s different now, but at that time, soldiers shot by AA were indeed killed instantly.
AA cannot shoot soldiers on the ground normally because it cannot fire horizontally, but at that time I was playing on the US side of D-Day.
I set up AA on the beach because of heavy German air strikes. Then I realized I could shoot the German soldiers on the cliffs with my AA.
I shot several soldiers with AA and they were all killed instantly.

But as you have deduced, some complexity in the damage calculation is surely producing strange results.

Idk about classic AA. But they will definitely not survive shot from AA that’s placed on armored train.

I believe the issue is more related to “downed state”. Since paratroopers have chance to trigger this state while being still in the air.
I don’t even understand why is it possible.

Btw, I opened Youtube and the video of the match that WARHEAD is talking about in this thread was recommended.

Okay… :grinning:

For me, this is the icing on the cake.
