5 reasons to give us a BR2 20 round Thompson already:
First of all, what would this 20 round magazine Thompson look like?
In my opinion, it would be good enough to have a gun with mostly the same stats of the M1A1 Thompson; of course, give it a 20 round mag. Now that’s been established, I can start listing the reasons we should have a 20 round Thompson.
1. It’s historically accurate
First of all, 20 round magazines were preferred over 50 round magazines by many soldiers, so it would be historically accurate considering the fact that we already have a 50 round magazine Thompson and a 100 round as well.
Plus, Using a Thompson on all your American assaulters would be more historically accurate than fully equipping them with M3A1 grease guns or M50 Reisings since Thompsons were used throughout the whole war. Due to not being able to select your own map, you could end up with a M50 Reising in the Battle of the Bulge or some late war submachine gun in an early war campaign. So even if your maps are randomized, the Thompson still makes sense whether you get into an early war or a late war campaign.
2. No 20 round Thompson in tech tree
Although there are gold order and premium squad Thompsons such as the 1929 BSA and 1928 USMC Thompson, there are no Thompsons available in the tech tree. The mention of the two submachine guns above brings me to my next point.
Not OP
A 20 round Thompson would not be overpowered in low BR. I’ve made a list of (low BR) submachine guns that are definitely better, and arguably better (marked with ?) than a 20 round M1A1 Thompson.
- Thompson M1928 USMC
- M1929 BSA Thompson
- M3 Silenced (?)
- Owen 45. ACP (?)
- Owen Mk. 1 (?)
This is excluding BR3 weapons. But if balancing of the 20 rnd Thompson really annoyed you, you could take steps such as making the iron sights uncomfortable, or changing dispersion/recoil as an example.
Iconic
My final point is that the Thompson is one of the most iconic firearms of American history, arguably more iconic than the AR15 or M1 Garand. It was the symbol of America during the Prohibition era as it was used by gangsters and law enforcement alike. It was still a symbol during WW2 as well. Limiting it to BR5 would be annoying as hell.
5. We already have guns in high BRs turned into low BRs with a magazine change.
This includes weapons such as PPsH41 (Box) and PPsH41 (drum), PPD34 and PPD34/38, M38A and M38 (40 rnd), , MP28 and MP28 (32 rnd), MP40 and MP40/1, MG13 and MG13 Drum, MG34 and MG34 Patronentrommel, MG42 and MG42 Patronentrommel, PzB38 and PzB39, M1928 Thompson 100/50 and M1928 Thompson and M1928 Thompson USMC, Type Hei Extended/Late and Type Hei, Type 100 Early and Type 100 Late, Type 2A and Type 2 1934, and plenty more.
As a plus, the PPsH41 Box is as good as its drum counterpart due to its tight dispersion and speedy reload…
Offtopic
This suggestion has nothing to do with the 20 rnd Thompson, but USSR customization.
Can we have the SSh39/40 helmets with the chinstrap actually on the chin?
