I’d like to make some suggestions for the 15cm.pz.w.42 motorized artillery. So why we need to use it as a battle tank and not as artillery?
Panzerwerfer had a traversed 270 degrees, could be elevated up to 80 degrees, and was guided with the RA35 optical sight. (It’s the same aiming system for 8cm mortar)
The effective range for a Panzerwerfer’s rockets was about 4,000-6,500 meters, and the maximum range was less than 7,000! is not a tank and he use a indirect fire support for troops!
Then I suggest you introduce a long-range indirect firing mode! (pointer on map or angle calculation as for mortar/spoting with the help of the team) Take the same system you use for airplanes (wider fields of operation) For example increase the starting location to 4km or more! Don’t forget to put the charging point a little further away like for planes! However, you can leave the fact of being on the front line! (so you will have two possible types of players)
While you are correct, giving it (and other similar vehicles) indirect fire may result in ppl parking it in the resuply points and spaming explosives at the objective with esentially unlimited ammo.
Not great for gameplay.
Not even airplanes spawn in at 4000m from the objective, and noone except other airplanes can shoot at them there.
That means indirect fire from that distance would be completely without counterplay, worse than current greyzone tanks/AA.
Add to that that indirect fire from that distance doesn’t have nearly as steep an angle as mortars, so the rockets will all get stuck on structures on many maps.
So what we get here is a player that occupies a tank slot that he will likely never lose because noone can destroy him, but also doesn’t contribute nearly as much to the battle as a default greyzone tank. I don’t think indirect fire for tanks is a healthy addition to the game.
Airplane can’t have such an important role in an infantry-centered game. And I say that as a pilot.
It’s already too much that people see planes as a last resort against greyzone campers, it shouldn’t be necessary. But creating yet another mechanic that can specifically only be countered by planes?
If such a mechanic were introduced it’d have to be something with intentionally little impact on infantry gameplay.
Because artillery is overall extremely toxic concept in every multiplayer game.
Camper from behind the hill constantly throwing shtts at you without needing any skill or effort.
While you, if you want to get rid of him. You have to show a lot more effort than he does.
Well, that’s a counter. You’ll know from where he’s throwing shtts on you, but you’ll still have to put a lot more effort into destroying him while he’s bombing the objective and not having to think about anything.
