What Armoured APC would you like to see for the Soviets?

Greetings and salutations, friends!

I’m currently planning a APC III suggestion, where I’ll bring up tech tree vehicles for each faction (subfactions included).

They’ll be very close in capabilities to the current armed and armoured Premium APCs, just in the tech tree.

Whilst there are options for the other factions that I’m (mostly) satisfied with, once again my knowledge on Soviet equipment is holding me back, so I thought I’d try out the wisdom of the crowd and see what they (that being you, dear readers,) think.

So far, I see three options for a bog-standard “armed and armoured APC at BR II” for the Soviets, those being:

1. A M5A1 Halftrack

Pros & Cons:

+Simple and uncontroversial, balance wise.
+A true APC | 3 crew, 10 passangers. No Universal Carrier clown-car bull.
± ~420 were sent to the Soviet Union as lend-lease by the US.
-Very similar to the current Premium M3A1 | Even if the Soviets apparently only got two of them, so it’d still be fair.
-Not a home-grown alternative.
-Would mean that the Soviets would get the same tech-tree vehicle as I’ve planned for the Commonwealth | Since the source is exactly the same for both nations (US lend-lease) that’s not nessesarily an issue, but some will complain about tech tree overlap.

2. T-20 Komsomolets

Pros & Cons:

+Driver and gunner are fully protected from small arms fire.
-Everyone else are almost fully exposed | Or fully, if flanked.
+A home-grown, Soviet unique alternative.
+Over 7k were produced.
-Not a natural APC | Artillery and artillery crew transport, only space for 6 exposed passangers. Still better than a Universal Carrier, but not by much. Still, some were apparently used as IFVs early on during Operation Barbarossa.

3. Any suggestion from the crowd

I hope there’s more stuff out there, and I welcome further ideas beyond the two above examples.

Here’s a poll for a quick vote on the issue, and please also leave a reply to why you think one option is superior to another.

What APC would you like to see in the Soviet Tech Tree…?
  • 1: M5A1
  • 2: T-20
  • 3: Other - If so, which one…?

Thanks for reading, I appreciate any feedback on the subject, and remember: Tea warms the soul, but doesn’t work quite as well on cold engines.

T-20 Komsomolets should be added to the tech tree first, since its the most logical first APC in the Soviet tech tree.

Once its added we could add the M5A1 APC or B-3 as well.

Oh, that looks interesting!

Just looked it up, apparently a DShK could even be mounted.

As for the reasoning for why the T-20 over the M5A1: Solid reasoning, I’ll take it under advisement.

I’d still like to hear from other people, of course.

This would probably never work but NKL-26 would be cool to see in Moscow maps

Hear me out:

T34 transporting infantry as literal meat shields.

Seriously though, if we ever consider faction specific mechanics again, some Soviet tanks getting a “one time use” APC like spawn would be interesting and thematically fitting cuz Soviets did that alot.

Okay maybe its fair to say that basically everyone had infantry on top of tanks as a quick taxi, but still.

I definitely would’ve like to see the Konsomolets instead of the UC copy paste they did, or the lend-lease. The other option also seems nice. That’s that I look forward to in a game like Enlisted. Because I believe a faction’s APC shouldn’t necessarily be a mirror image of the other faction’s, but instead be a homegrown design. With it’s quirks and all. visible bolts, welds and what not. That’s why I like the Japanese Premium, despite being a bit slow. It’s a unique design.

Intereating.

What’s the passanger count, and production\service history…? It looks quite cramped.

Probably doesn’t count as “armored” but would be cool to see

Yeah, falls outside the scope of my planned suggestion, but it’s a cool inclusion nether the less.

Do tracked vehicles have better off-road performance in game…? If so, that’s a good reason to request this as a event vehicle (without squad), due to the slightly different performance.

Prototype. 1 driver and 14 Soldier. I can’t find any other information, maybe other friends can help more.

Wowie, 15 people…!? Damn, that’s impressive, are they packed like sardines in there…?

Well, there 's a Swedish saying in these kinds of situations, though: “Finns det hjärterum så finns det stjärterum”, translated “If there’s room in the heart, there’s room for the butt”.

Said when making an effort to accommodate guests or the like (despite lack of space or the like, like fitting in an extra guy on the couch or in the back of a car).

What I want :

More APC (at all BR and for all Nations )

I won’t promise “all BRs”, that frankly seems impossible to do we don’t have that many APCs from history in this time period.

What I can say though, is that I do plan for at least two BR III Premiums for Canada, that being their Kangaroo APCs.

Ram Kangaroo and Churchill Kangaroo, are my preferable choices for this purpose.

Please save the Ram Kangaroo for the tech tree.
APCs are the one field in which we cant force 1:1 balance so each faction should have their own unique APCs.
