Tank…we have them

Engineers build cannons. You can hide tanks in bushes and shoot from cover.

Tanks have no reason to push out into the open as they don’t have enough protection.

IRL they were able to as forces were often really unbalanced (large groups of tanks vs little to no AT weaponry), or because the enemy forces did not identify the tanks as being enemy tanks.

Also because IRL forces don’t materialize on the spot and things need to be planned beforehand because they take time.

AT guns could be much better fortified and well-hidden, but they had to be physically towed in place instead of by a guy flailing a hammer at empty air for 10 seconds.
So the tradeoff is that attackers could almost always rely on having greater numbers than defenders, as unlike defenders, they know exactly where they’re attacking.

The rule of thumb, with a lot of caveats to account for force-multipliers, is that the attackers should make sure they have 3x the strength of the defenders at a point before they make a push.

Meanwhile in game I’ll wait outside a building for a friendly squad or 2 to join me and overwhelm the defenders. A minute later all the nearest friendlies are still just watching me from the next building over so when I die and the enemy finishes reloading, they can charge in alone and die the same way.
