the panther ain’t a magical tank that can stop every shells?
( please, i’m begging you. don’t tell me that you believed to propagandas about the panther, and thinking that the panther it self was the best tank of the world. )
That depends on how the round hits, what your relative position to the enemy is, and how extreme the angle of impact is. It should have to be pretty extreme and probably uphill in this case, but it’s not impossible.
you’re not wrong about any of that, though. I think they’ve been messing with the entire ballistics and damage model for tanks in an effort to try to balance things, but just ended up with nonsense.
Random chance ammo racks, most likely. By any logic, german armor should shredding everything the allies have, except Jumbo in certain situations, and except with the Puma. Every tank the axis has gets APHE, except the Puma (solid shot I think) and PzIII N (HE and HEAT, right?) Meanwhile the only tank the allies have that has real effectiveness against armor (in theory, if not reality) is the M8 with decent HEAT. Solid shot just sucks.
So I was able to shoot a panther finally. The 17pdr pierces the mantlet easily but since it has no post pen the you will often miss the gunner/commander and do no damage.
It’s no miracle solution to the panther. Its solid shot still sucks. The brit machine gun is better at anti-infantry. it has awful turret depression coupled with a high center of gravity. Way more ammunition than the M24 though.
Surprisingly the Russian Valentine, for whatever reason, generates more spall, despite both being solid shot.
The panzer J reskin is just that. Turret traverse is so slow infantry can outrun it.
It’s solidly an “enthusiast” or “whale” tier purchase.
