One of the fun elements (Though very half baked) was Heroes and Generals war mode. Enlisted could create the same kind of system using the same idea of tying a player to one faction while the war plays out. It is a seperate mode that you can choose to engage in or not engage in.
Simple idea,
Join a faction
Open to all BRs or 1-3 and or 4 and 5
X number of battles (Each phase being a campaign set)
Overall faction with highest combined score wins the war
Bonus exp engaging in a battle, no passive exp boost like HnG
Not gonna lie, the idea is great. But if the idiots nowadays are incapable of something as simple as stepping onto a point on attack or staying inside it on defense, a game mode like this would completely fry their last remaining brain cells. Still, the idea itself is brilliant
Heroes and Generals scratched the surface with the idea. This game would do gangbusters if there was mode the vet players could go at it for skin in the game. Push and pike method. 3 start points, 3 defense points 10 caps each line. Each win can be more tickets, same amount, or defender gets tickets. Almost like Dark Ages of Camelot’s realm system.
I’m not gonna lie, the idea is beautiful and massive; it would certainly provide months of content between learning how to play it, maintaining it, and finally enjoying it. But we are facing three major issues:
1. Too much work for devs who do the bare minimum.
2. Player count: The active player base in Enlisted is so low that we struggle to even fill simple 30-player lobbies. I estimate you’d need at least 30 players on each side for something like this to work.
3. It’s a niche mode. Even though I personally love the idea as a strategy fan, it’s just too niche. In games like Hell Let Loose, where everyone should already know what they’re getting into—since it’s a heavy, tactical milsim—people still don’t know what the hell to do. If you give something like this to the current Enlisted player base, one of two things will happen: either absolutely nobody plays it, or it becomes an utter chaos where neither allies nor enemies have a single clue where to start.
And to top it all off, to even push an idea like this, the devs would have to face their ultimate nightmare: marketing. The devs want the money flowing to them, not the other way around. :v
Then again, the idea is awesome and if you submit it to the suggestions section, you’ll definitely have my vote.
They cap barrow the idea from Raising Storm 2 . Each turn represents a single year and a specific battle. As the war progresses in years, the available weapons and commander abilities change. Players choose a single side—either Northern or Southern forces—and vote on tactical map decisions before fighting standard matches.
I gave a lot of thought about how this system could practically work in Enlisted. Hope you agree!
edit: I really think Enlisted needs a more competitive mode, and then fully embrace a more bot heavy mode for new players - the exactly the same mode HNG had. New players get seal clubbed, especially on console. Players are crying out for a more competitive mode like this
agreed, I remember being sent to some fuck ass frontline (playing Germany), having 0 resources (just infantry tickets) and somehow holding and winning the battle
german generals in HNG were always something to be desired
This is a much wider issue - I think this mode would split the player base in quite a productive way. It would give new players an easier mode to settle into, and give experienced / vet players something worth playing for. It might also attract some vets who are looking for a more hardcore experience e.g HLL players
Agreed, it is. But the core player base is so fundamentally bored with the grind, that there needs to be some sort of end game. To an extent, you can compare Enlisted to Destiny (grind wise), but Destiny has something which is competitive and difficult - raids. Enlisted just has more of the same, and once you have completed the tech tree, one yearns for a testing mode.
Well, you test it and slowly introduce it. The fact that HNG has relaunched itself after being dead for like 10 years does show there is a market for a game like this. It is just that no other WW2 shooter has dared to give this RTS mode.
Well, the devs have to realise that it is in their interest to introduce a new mode. They need to make money to sustain themselves. Old players have little to spend on - if you create a new mode, you create new means for players to spend in
