People have been complaining about body armor since before the merge and you know that. Regardless of the fact if people are concerned or not, don’t you think it’s stupid game design and stupid game balance for one faction to magically have damage resisting body armor with no downsides?
It’s a giant piece of metal. It doesn’t impede soldiers at all and nearly every class can equip it. It affects game balance by changing the damage break points and the shots required to kill somebody particularly in regards to SMGs.

Are you sure about that? Rumors are the body armor will forever be a free damage resist bonus with no downsides that only 1 faction is permitted to enjoy because of developer biases.

I would tolerate the body armor if it had a penalty to speed or stamina or something else. Do you not agree it is poor game design to offer such an advantage with no downside at all? Do you think you could wear such an item in real life and be completely unbothered by it?

I wouldn’t exactly call the players wanting body armor changed a “knee jerk reaction” when players have been complaining about it “FOR YEARS”! 
At least for me it’s pretty obvious the developers don’t care or that would have been addressed a couple years ago.

interesting statement! does this include nerfing boosters usage system to the ground immediately to the whole playerbase, based on an exploit a minimal amount of players used, then reverting back due to noticing it was an extremely bad thing to do in the first place?
