The "New" handgun update

With the most recent update: regarding soldiers using their handguns, when the enemy is supposedly within a certain proximity:

I saw the update from my Xbox, but cannot find it’s description on the forum (regarding the handguns).
However, I did remember reading this thread, which you can all use as a reference.

Why would it make any sense for a soldier to use this cheap handgun that cost me 1 silver ticket, compared to a fully upgraded SMG?

An update was introduced, and there is an issue with the new mechanism. It makes no sense for a soldier who has a SMG with a 40 round magazine, to run around with a cheap-ass pistol that is only used when if I survive long enough to run out of primary ammunition.

so yeah it is a bug.

I reread all the changelog from now to the pacifc event and there is nothing about let bot using pistol

i read first few posts carefully… didnt find insults… and i read OP with those screenshots which you obviously didnt read. it was explained it was a bug there.

Since the latest AI updates, my co-soldiers prefer to use their pistols rather than main guns regardless of the distance to cap point or enemies. Seems to happen to all classes and in all campaigns. [gunbug] [gunbug2] [gunbug3] Pls fix. Very annoying, because my muscle memory tells me to reach for the pistol when running out of ammo in close quarters but now I was forced to unequip all my soldiers.

Very annoying. Reported it earlier. Have hundreds of pistol in the stock now and will not equip my soldier until this is solved.

However like you say, it was meant to be fixed, but it ain’t. And ppl have already mentioned it, and the problem is acknowledged.

In today’s update it was supposed to be fixed so that AI squadmembers no longer use their pistol when their main weapon is not out of ammo. Unfortunately my buddy here still uses his pistol wrong: a) long distance b) his main weapon is not out of ammo (I checked) [afbeelding]

Aye, and I wasn’t accusing anybody of anything from my OP.

All I said was that it makes no sense for a soldier, who is packing a submachine gun, to switch to their handgun.

And offered my suggestion (a few comments below, regarding this mechanic)

By running around with a handgun (rather than his SMG), this bot might as well shoot himself in the head because he is going to contribute NOTHING unless I manually take over.

To have the A.I. auto equip their handguns when the enemy comes within a close proximity, ONLY makes sense if the soldier is a sniper with a bolt action rifle. Maybe even a regular rifleman…
Other than that… soldiers who are equipped with semi-auto rifles, SMG’s, and Machine Guns, should be exempt from this mechanism. Because you might as well not even have them in the squad if that’s the gun they are going to run around with.

“this feature” was created and implemented with the coding within the game. This “code” should only apply to specific classes of soldiers and the type of weapon are using.
I feel like if you use this code while being applied to all soldiers, and then create an additional code to (counter-act the issue)… perhaps the solution is to apply the coding only to sniper class and riflemen.
