Tank class limits (for current and future updates)

My idea is to remove tanks from player control entirely - make them entirely AI, and rather conservative/passive AI at that - by which I mean they will not go swanning around at 50kph trying to spawn camp.

Instead they will follow your infantry squad and support it - you can designate general area targets for them to overwatch for example. It would help if they did not have the current infantry AI insta-see-and-kill capability of course!!

They also drive off when your current squad is killed… so you don’t get them for hte whole game - and they have a cool down timer as now so you can’t jsut call tehm up again straight away.

Accompanying this - remove the compulsory requirement to have a vehicle in your 4 squad lineup - so if you do not choose to have a tank then you can field 4 infantry squads.

Wasn’t that the original plan? I remember being very surprised seeing a dev blog announcing playable tanks.

However I like how tanks function at the moment. Granted I definitely don’t want to see them buffed.

if it was in previously then it was before my time

And it’s “just a suggestion” - not something I’m going to die in a ditch over

I mean iirc it was part of the original concept but as far as I’m aware bot tanks were never actually attempted, they just said they were planning on all vehicles being bots with fixed behaviors.

Honestly I like the combined arms.
If I lost the ability to use vehicles, I would probably just quit.

I think my posts issue maybe related to this one

How about this ? Spawn Point Costs For Different Vehicles

Enlisted is combined arms, it will just ruin the gameplay imo

Plus, AI tanks would be very… clumsy
They’ll probably get always stuck in tank traps, aim for only one enemy instead of group of enemies, thus providing limited support by them

Also, it will upset a lot of players who love driving them and devs already introduced observation devices and are developing tank enterior

Honestly, current tanks already have observation devices but the main issue is, no one uses them because maps are too small for them to be useful

I was using observation devices just for fun and I’ve noticed that Bt-7 has terrible sights

Observation devices issue was mostly a problem on long range. The issue is, we don’t have long range maps in Enlisted

Also to add that we already have observation devices in Enlisted

I would give it worse FOV just like Tcat suggested

Nobody uses them because they’re so poorly-implemented as to be useless.

I’d suggest few people use them because no-one knows about them - I don’t for example!

So what are they? How do you use them?

Heck how do you even get your commander head-out to to look around??

For people coming cold to the game there’s no significant tutorial or help function remember!

In some seats you can scroll to change your view to a different port.

However the transition is slow, a bit disorienting, and the visibility is terrible so you’re all around better off just traversing the turret or rotating the whole tank.

Tank views need to be more like Post Scriptum.

To make this work I would suggest controls as in hell let loose

W, S for elevating the gun and A, D for turning the turret

And mouse move can be used for looking around the tank

Also force players to change to drivers position for moving so they can’t turn the whole tank to speed up the turret rotating process

With these limitations, observation devices might become useful

But would make the entire tank combat thing extremely clumsy, and prevent you from reacting to detonation packs that aren’t cooked.

I already have my opinion on that

Or make the AI driver run from TNT packs

people just want to split the anti-building and anti-tank role between 2 explosives. That in no way, shape or form fixes the issue of not being able to get away from the anti-tank grenade or explosive pack if you notice it in time but get slowed down by crew switching.

give ant tank grenades that does less damage to infantry and normal hand grenades that does more damage to infantry and no damage to tanks

Surprise surprise, that’s already a thing
Normal grenades have a larger blast radius and can be thrown further than the explosive packs.

but explosives do like almost same damage to the people too

I agree with Tcat. It would be too sluggish to work in relatively fast game like this.
Additionally it would look like only one person crews the tank.
