Flak-36 was ment to engage tanks at about 1km range. Show me one map in Moscow on which it’s possible.
Doesnt mean it cant engage them from MUCH closer, and it was never MEANT to shoot at ANY ground target. It’s an antiaircraft cannon meant to shoot 8-9km into the sky to shoot down bomber formations. Plus the current tank cannons couldnt fire at something at point blank with their HE before you gurgle out some shit about minimum distance.
So why you suggested it as a counter to KV? Or at least that’s how I understood this.
Because it could easily penetrate the KV-1, therefore adding a counter. Why is that difficult?
if it could hit the KV-1 with its atrocious turret rotation speed
Yeah it was - that is why it could depress <0 degrees (many dedicated AA guns could not) and had direct fire sights - again many dedicated AA guns could not.
Ah the Soviet mains…complains about T-60 being unable to pen Pz II from front but wants KV-1 that can only be penned by an AT cannon which requires you to have an enginner squad equipped for this purpose alone. Selfishness at its best.
Those were modifications done later on specifically because the Germans couldn’t counter the KV-1s at first, afaik.
Yup. BaLaNs CoMrAdE)))
I think it was because of Matildas in France, maybe even earlier as they used them in AT role in Spain already.
More likely the B1 Bis in france
Those too, but Matildas had more armor and they once attacked Germans from flank and only think that could stop them were 88 there.
No - they were built like that right from the get go and were found to be useful as artillery - both anti-tank and general - with those sights - in the Spanish Civil War!
I just wanted to reply you like you replied to me.
I sent a message that is somewhat on topic but doesn’t answer anything and basically skipps the argument instead of facing it.
So if that is clear, answer the argument:
i did face the argument by pointing out how dumb it was. No need to be petty
Ok, so I’ve done quick math and it looks like the gun itself is nimble enough to deal with KV-1 at >5,5m range.
So I guess the range is not a problem. My bad. (But it doesn’t mean I agree.)
