Now that we have confirmation that a squad preset system is confirmed, we can look forward to creating different presets for our factions to play at different BRs. The point of this post, is to suggest how we can expand and and improve this concept a little beyond what we will likely get.
The progression update is taking a lot of inspiration from Warthunder, just look at the new tech tree system as an example. This means we will also likely get the same imported preset system that Warthunder has.
While there isn’t anything necessarily wrong with this preset system, I think there is some room to add more customization. One game that has a similar preset system we can look to for inspiration is Steel Division 2, which is shown below.
Steel Division 2’s presets are called “battlegroups”, and while they are in an entirely different genre of game, they still represent a preset of what units the player is bringing in for a certain faction. One thing I really like about the battlegroup mechanic is that you can give each battlegroup a custom symbol. Allowing the player to quickly discern the battlegroups from each other. I think this feature should be included and combined with the Warthunder style preset symbol we are likely going to get.
(please ignore that soviet presets are using german equipment)
My ideal system would look something like this, with each preset distinguishable by a symbol. Hopefully each preset will allow soldiers to have different cosmetic options. With presets that play and look different, allowing different preset symbols would be an excellent organizational tool and give the player more customization choice, making each preset a little more special. Additionally it would be nice to be able to see the custom symbol somewhere on the screen while that preset is being used.
This mechanic could also appeal to people asking for more historical accuracy. They could recreate historical divisions with their historically accurate weaponry and symbol for the preset (some symbols obviously are not appropriate).
