When I was looking for femboy on Twitter, it recommended this user to me.(mybe i play to much enlisted) His models and tweets are quite interesting, but many are about fantasy firearms. Are there any Japanese friends who can go and ask him about it?

So, I tried drawing one based on the FG 42 as well. I just really wanted to see the Type 44 bayonet on it, lol. That said, both the FG 42 and the Johnson have such intricate designs that they look like a real pain to manufacture. Even if Japan had gotten their hands on them, I don’t think they would’ve been inclined to copy them. It’s not that they couldn’t make them, but more like, “Is there even a good reason to go out of our way to do so?”

Still, I think if both were chambered for the 6.5x50mm Arisaka round, they would’ve turned out to be perfectly serviceable—even in full-auto—and excellent rifles. I’ve heard controlling the FG 42 on full-auto is quite difficult, though apparently the Johnson isn’t as bad. But then again, for the Japanese military, they’d simply be too extravagant, lol.

Also, the Johnson and the FG 42 are remarkably similar, aren’t they? Not just in their overall outline, but also features like being closed-bolt in semi-auto and switching to open-bolt in full-auto. Even their rear sights look awfully similar… The Johnson was developed slightly earlier, but timing-wise, I don’t think the FG 42 team could have copied it. I guess this is just another case of synchronicity, huh…- 松本森男

This submachine gun is an imaginative depiction of the experimental Type 2, which would have used the compact Type 95 cartridge. Before World War II, the Japanese military was ahead of its time, developing a cartridge that was comparable to modern assault rifle ammunition. This is what is referred to as the “Type 95 cartridge.” It had a 6.5mm caliber and is said to have been a shortened version of the Type 38 cartridge.

During testing, the cartridge itself was reportedly rejected for being too powerful for a submachine gun (well, that makes sense). But this drawing is my imagination of what might have been if they had managed to develop a firearm robust enough to handle it. In short, it’s a lighthearted, fictional “what-if” scenario. I imagined that perhaps by adding a locking mechanism around the barrel (in the drawing, I used one similar to the Type 94 pistol) and a compensator at the muzzle like the Type 100, they might have made it work.

As for the girl’s headband, armband, and naval collar insignia, those are the result of me pushing the fantasy into overdrive, so please just ignore those (laughs). I also think it would be nice to make a 3D version of this drawing, along with Pantan and the Type 100 “big sister” character… But it’s just a thought for now.

And that’s all for now. This is a series I only update about once every six months, and while I’d like to draw a bit more, I haven’t managed to. This year, I hope to put more effort into both my models and my drawings.

Not quite proof but this post does have evidence of a potential prototype gun
