Soldiers should die

If I understand you correctly, something similar can be achieved by subtracting points for deaths.

However, this is a suggestion section. Section meant for serious suggestions that should be done and implemented in the game. That is why I treat it as one.

i just wrote… imagine
not change it-- imagine what if…
i needed this to clear minds for myself about it…
every discussion is productive in some way

Suggestions, need some start to accept or reject something
like every project
There is no stupid questions, only stupid answers…
every game start with imagination

OK, let’s play along the pretend game.

Serious question - have you ever played an XCOM game?

This thread is more fitting in Mess room meant for this kind of stuff tho…

Again: Suggestions section in Enlisted forum was ever since CAT (closed alpha testing) meant for suggestion of players how to change or improve the game.
If you make such a topic in suggestions section, people will treat it like one.

40 year ago, me and my brother create a paper war game based on moves, simmilar to Risk game it was started like an idea and was developed ingame 5 years…

not familiar with question?

at that tim I was in real war, sorry :frowning:

I am not going to drag real life into this conversation.

Anyway, for the record, XCOM is a sci-fi turn based strategic and tactical combat games franchise.

There, soldiers can be leveled up from rookies to lethal veterans, but if they die in combat, they’re gone for good. Moreover, the RNG in combat is brutal, and a single unlucky roll can often screw up your whole engagement and get your whole squad decimated; not to count that also means losing valuable pieces of equipment that took time and precious resources to get. Furthermore, reserves are scarce, and of course the more you progress the harder the enemies become, because the difficulty is calibrated assuming that your soldiers will have been leveling up in the meantime.

Therefore, losing a precious veteran or a whole squad because of a single error or just plain bad luck is an infuriating thing, and it leads to general abuse of the quicksave/quickload function (unless a madman turned on the ā€œiron manā€ mode which allows no 2nd chances).

Now, that happens in a mainly single player game where combat mostly happens on a small scale (rarely more than 6 vs 6 at anytime).

I can’t even fully imagine the amount of frustration that permadeath of soldiers would cause in a mass multiplayer game about large scale battles, in which soldiers and equipment upgrading plays a relevant role, to the point of being one of the main pillars of game economy and monetization.

And the developers know. Ask yourself: would you ever spend money to upgrade your weapons and soldiers, knowing that at any time in any match they all could be lost forever in a blink?

What you are fantasizing about is a game concept that will hopefully never have a place in Enlisted. Because if it that will be the case, it will mean the start of the descent of the game into the same hell of frustration that’s War Thunder; with the main difference being that WT still lives on thanks to the lack of a real direct competitor, while in the FPS market there’s plenty of alternatives.

I think soldiers that are shot and knocked down shouldn’t even be revivable unless by medic teams, which we don’t have, but the devs want to keep their bad mechanics

i’m honestly not sure how medics would work anymore since people are inherently selfish both teammates and enemies with enemies having no second thought about finishing kills

yep that’s how it should be, self reviving I think it’s crazy

again people are selfish so having a dedicated medic squad would be useless

I guess they weren’t the first ones. Cannon Fodder even had a nice cemetery gradually filling up (at 8:00 in video)…

Yep, but they should remove self revive, it’s a dumb mechanic

and waste time laying on the ground waiting for a medic that may never happen…yeah no thanks though an interesting fact that most people don’t know is that you can use your medkits to revive other soldiers, just that no one does it because you need to use up your own medkits

if you get shot, you should die, but I guess some people like you like it more arcade. I mean imagine, you shoot someone for being dumb, they revive and throw a charge into your spot, and kill all your soldiers. Being shot shouldn’t ā€œrewardā€ you for being stupid

except most players do finish off downed soldiers, i’ve been in a voice chat with someone who was raging at that lol, so medics would be used for personal use if people use them and provided that they don’t die also keep in mind that it’s 8 seconds to revive yourself, 2 seconds with 75% med speed, 2 seconds if someone else is reviving you , and 1 second with someone else reviving you if they have 75% med speed so you have more than enough time to finish off a kill with most weapons.

Yep, I’m saying the downed soldiers should just bleed out(and die) while still being able to use their weapon if not hit in mortal spots.
