Mg34 recoil profile below 20 both horizontal and vertical, and fast rate allow recoil to be very controllable in stand up. Walking ADS in MG34 can be used to clear the room and squad wipe very confidently. When using the same tactic with DP27, I feel like my hip jumps to my chest and misses most of the shot. Slower rof means you are likely to miss. I try CQC with DP27 already, doesn’t work and if there are more than 2 guys, aim at you, you are dead. DT-29 fixed that but it is a different campaign.
Mid-range: about 50m-100m or the length of the first Bridge in Koenigsplatz (Invasion). German SMG has lower damage drop, can spray through the length of the bridge. Don’t try it with PPSh, waste of ammo and make you are the primary target. Holding their own, yes, but PPSh has to use burp fire, require more skill to use. When I and my teammate switch to Axis, we fight in longer distant, and Soviets have no chance.
Even its rather old video and thing have changed since the gameplay with it is still rather similar.
Dmg drop off differency is 0.5 for favor of M38 which is 3.3 at 100m so it requires 4hits to do over 10dmg ( 13,2 )
Ppsh does 2.8dmg at 100m which also requires 4hits to do over 10dmg ( 11.2 )
Not exactly the bridge your talking about thats supposed to be such advantage that it balances the differencies of these smg’s. But still does rather well at formidable range and you can always take rifle as second weapon with PPsh if you feel like being at massive disadvantage at longer range.

100m is quite far, for the average player, it is hard to range the bullet drop let alone score 4 hits. 50m seems to be a comfortable distance for me to engage, and 20m for PPSh where I can aim for the torso and recoil jump to the head. Additionally, PPSh users must use ammo bags, you only have 2 drums. I rather switch to a teammate with bolt action than cut down ammo.
I saw the video many times, very entertaining and he has a fully upgraded assaulter (cheaper now) and quality PPSh (which is expensive to hell). You can see the close distance he engages, It is a monster if an enemy squad is caught with his pants down.
After MG “fix”, you cannot pull that with DP-27 now. the recoil is super hard to spray, has to be stationary and tap-firing for a longer shot. German MG34/42 recoil is less than half DP-27. Much easier for the average player to perform well. DP-27 compared to MG34 is like Jadpanzer IV compare to Panther, both can work for a first-rate player but Panther can do much more.
In the end, I think this Campaign is pretty balance wise for average player. A first rate player will destroy them even with Max-gear. I saw how Soul@Tribunal destroy Russian team with his bolt-action.
So the “advantage” german smg’s has over PPSh is even less relevant ?

This is slightly controversial, ppsh without recoil is hard to manage at 100m but suddenly average players can handle mg34 recoil, which definitely has to be fired on burst to achieve anykind of effectiveness.
Never denied the Mg34 being better than DP27 question was is theyr differency really even comparable to M38 ( Or any smg ) vs PPSh.

No. As I said The German SMG is easier to use mid-range 30-50m, Go prone and you can drop them like fly. I got both of them and I have no problem with even MP38/40 against PPSh, as long as he do not have a jump on me. CQC depend on who has first accurate shot and below 30m PPSh is supreme in CQC. Engineer for SMG only good in defensive position. In attacking, you need ammo ready “on hand”. My whole point is German SMG is not as impressive as PPSh but they do the job very well and skill can compensate the difference. The same with DP and MG34.
I seem to me you are trying to measure overall faction advantage of DP+PPSh and M38+MG34 based on your experience without experimental data. So saying that Soviet are overall better is subjective at best, all depend on Map, situation and player skill. I have to disagree and said that I have different experience. Soul@Tribunal found in “Disadvange” side, Tunisia and Berlin Axis, with bolt action. If there is bot, it is most of our team.
Finally, I think it is the player who decide win/loss, equipment only the force multiplier. So far Moscow seem to workout with asymmetric balance very well, no wunderwaffe like Panther or Grant.

There are quite many topics about the smg subject where the guns has been tested and counted TTK etc. Infact if I recall the first pdd has better TTK than any german smg’s.
