I dunno what the old kind of premium squad was, but I think it’s inappropriate for them to be “best in slot” - It makes “best in slot” way too easily accessible, and it’s kinda pay 2 win.
My ideal version would be “fully upgraded squad of soldiers, fully upgraded weapons, 1 less soldier than a normal full squad” or something similar.
They did explicitly state that the changes to premium squads had to do with them overperforming statistically, so they probably were a bit OP.

they were introduced on a time where everyone only had bolt action rifles or litle to no progress.
and
they were introduced with the ability to have 7 soldiers of the same class (for example 7 smg’s on a squad or 7 lmg’s)
as example:
and also, all of them had a 35% vitality perk.
ence, the overperforming of said squads and the reason we dont see 35% no more vitality on them (removed from the soldiers perk and only 4 stars so they cant have the best perks)
we dont want none of that.
all we want, is the same oportunity to have more soldiers of diferent classes in the squad.
no 7 smg’s
no 7 lmgs.
no vitality perk
no extra slot on the backpack that could equip a grenade or a tnt pack.
no shit like that.
we dont want advantages like that. we simply want them to have the same squad composition as non premium ones.
all we ask: only more options on techtree of the squads as a non premium squad have.
i still have squads from that time on my inventory. but right now they are as follow:

also, if you remember correcly. people argue again and again about how OP the premium panzer 38t in moscow was, right now, it have 4 tanks as good or better than it. the problem of the premium panzer 38t in moscow, was purely the time it was deployed.
if it was today, people would complain “why this tank as a premium” but backthen, since russians had no tank to fight it back, was simply OP. in a nutshell, basicly all premium squads back then.
the nerf was overkill. we dont ask for advantages, only squad composition on the upgrade tree with diferent soldiers.

If the resulting squads don’t overperform, I don’t see how they could be called OP. Having them work more like normal squads seems fine, I don’t see why not.
The vitality perk is bonkers and i would like to see it dead, as a sidenote. Yuck.
