I see, but I think the 80s up to the 2000s were the best period for video games, and to think that at the very beginning of video games it was a pastime for the rich, back then until arcade machines arrived, did you know that?
You have no idea how much this is true!
Not entirely true. We had the great Clive Sinclair, and Chris Curry that made microcomputers (as they were called back then) affordable for the working man. If it wasn’t for their amazing contributions, home computers would never have taken off.
There’s a film called Micro Men that kinda explains it all. It’s a great film. I highly recommend it. ![]()
Did you know that playing video games (alone) improves certain brain functions and helps combat some mental disorders? Playing is a passion, but a passion that can be very beneficial!
I’ll go check it out! That’s piqued my curiosity!
My dad is living proof.
Dementia runs rife in his bloodline, but this old boy is as clued up as anyone my age.
Gaming is life. Gaming is good. Gaming is golden.
Oh yeah, definitely!
If this trend continues, with the physical and second-hand markets threatened, we risk having no more single-player games within a few years, and especially no more physical games, which will make collectors very rare.
And physical stores too, for that matter…
61 and I don’t feel a day over 75.
I think @Conscript_Joe has me beat in age though.
I’ve been playing video games since the days of Pong, which I am sure a lot of young bucks here never heard of.
We had an Atari and the game Pong in the mid to late 1970’s. Over the years, I’ve had Atari, Intellivision, Sega Genesis, Nintendo, Playstation’s and PC’s. I’ve had every Call of Duty and Medal of Honor game ever made, along with tons of others which names I can’t remember, so, I have pretty much played them all. ![]()
For your viewer enjoyment, I give you pong. ![]()
Oh, I remember them days, round at my gran’s house, playing on the old Binatone. ![]()
The days were all so innocent back then! ![]()
Wow, impressive boss! I’m young and I know Pong ![]()
, I only got to play it once.
I never understood what kind of black magic it worked back then.
You plugged it into your TV and there was a frequency that allowed you to play, and if I remember correctly, the console had pre-installed games, including Pong!
And the worst part is, they told me you actually had to go to a TV store to buy a console and have a technician come out to do the setup and everything ![]()
You are all young, age is just a state of mind!
That’s exactly what got me into gaming, even as a 3 year old.
I saw my brothers manipulating the TV and making shit happen blew my tiny mind.
I’m eternally thankful that my dad saw the future with computers, and brought them home.
I remember him playing Elite on the Spectrum, pulling all-nighters, and going downstairs to see him passed out in front of the computer/TV.
If it wasn’t for those memories, I might never have become an IT engineer.
If we’re going by maturity I am still a teenager. ![]()
Feckin same.
Growing old is inevitable. Growing up is purely optional.
This kind of precious memory, wow!
My girlfriend just turned 35 and she keeps me in shape. ![]()
Ah!
I’ll always be a kid at heart, so a teen is still older! ![]()

My missus is a couple of years older than me, but she remembers playing Elite with her brother.
Anyhoo…
Once again, I’ve dragged my own topic well off-topic.
As much as I love this nostalgia, we should probably get it back to the point of it.
ADD A BR FILTER TO THE GAME!

Quick question, and completely unrelated, but did any of you play the first Need for Speed as 3PO?
I would have liked to know if, for its time, it was truly a visual masterpiece?
Or if it was simply an average game?
