Yes, the intricate engraving on this example leads me to believe it was once owned by a Japanese person of some wealth and/or influence. According to a 1963-dated article in a Japanese arms publication, only about 2,000 - 3,000 shotguns were converted in this manner, with a great many having been subsequently destroyed in a March, 1945 firebomb raid. My records indicate this is only the fifth example that has been reported or observed.
