Do 217 E-4
DESCRIPTION
The Do 217 E-4 is one of the modifications of the German frontline bomber produced by “Dornier Werke.” The E-4 differs from the E-2 by its updated defensive armament: a 20 mm MG FF cannon was installed in the nose section. In addition, the Luftwaffe completely abandoned attempts to make the Do 217 E a dive bomber, so the new aircraft was not equipped with an air brake. Production of the Do 217 E-4 began in late 1941. The Do 217 E-4, like the Do 217 E-2, was mainly used to destroy naval targets and to bomb British cities.
