I have a new idea for tank squads

I’m pretty sure the topic is already been covered in other suggestions but not everyone’s gonna do it so that’s why I made this post for AI covering tanks instead of players.

That used to be the case during moscow CBT, because AI was rather strong, they would easily kill single soldiers trying to outflank the frontline, thus tankers tried getting close to the main flow of your allied infantry.

Nowadays nothing will protect you from even a single player walking up to you, so you need distance and a spot where you can observe incoming enemies - which often is the grey zone.

I often follow friendly tanks into combat and use them as cover, it’s quite useful until their Icarus prophecy fulfills itself and they explode from getting too close to the action.

If more tanks had smoke and smoke actually left decent plumes it would support this tank/infantry relationship even more.

I find when they explode their hull makes a good place to put down a rally point with some sand bags

War Thunder has similar “Teamwork” awards which I really enjoy and it definitely encourages me to work together with my teammates.

Similarly, tanks should be rewarded for zone capture if they’re playing near the objective. You can’t capture points in a tank but your presence certainly helps sway the cap in your team’s favor which should be rewarded, especially considering the risk you take getting that close to the objective.

If a tribe hunting together takes down a beast they all benefit from the meat, not just the one who’s spear pierced the heart.

I’m pretty sure the topic is already been covered in other suggestions but not everyone’s gonna do it so that’s why I made a post about Extra AI for the tank squad to cover the tank.

And you already can technically do this If you have a friend in a tank you asked him to get out and let you drive with your 9 man squad your squad will fill up any of the seats and any of the spares will follow the tank into battle.

I get that, I’m just sharing my view concerning this matter.
Don’t like your idea and think there are a lot of other things that can be done to achieve the same purpose.

They did a similar thing in BF4 with Amtracs and it didn’t really work like they hoped. Honestly not a good idea in my opinion. (Also very exploitable.)

This could be an interesting idea potentially. Perhaps adding a couple riflemen or something?

Additionally, I think that overall there needs to be additional “seats” for other teammates to use, to catch a ride and use top mounted weapons and such, with their remaining squad in formation around the tank (which could be ordered into different formations).

The potential for a good idea, just gotta figure out details.

I’ve made my fair share of posts on this part, as I’m sure you’ve seen. I’m big time in favor of them being a multiplier.

Additionally though, I think that tanks should get more points for playing their intended roles (and list that on their info screens!.

WHAT I MEAN:

Have the area divided into 3 sections:

  • Artillery (just in front of greyzone)
  • Advancing (the mid ground between the artillery zone and just in front of the objective)
  • Breakthrough (the objective and surrounding area).

Look at the M8 Scott right, its role is as fire support primarily. not as a push tank. So it gets the most points by being in the “artillery zone”

In comparison, something like the Jumbo is actually more for advancing and breakthrough, so it would get more points in zones like that, and LESS in the artillery zone.

Ultimately, the listed role would give the most points for fighting from that zone, a second listed role would be the “mid ground” where it would get standard points, and the last zone, where they would likely NOT be playing their role correctly, (like the flamethrower stuart in Pacific trying to play as artillery) where they would get a REDUCED amount of points.

This gets people out of the greyzone as a whole first off.

Secondly, it helps people better understand what their specific tank type is supposed to be for, as they aren’t ALL supposed to be for artillery, quite a few are supposed to be for breakthrough.

Lastly, it gives even more reason for players with heavy armor tanks to push up and help their infantry!

I have suggested a few times I would like to be able to capture objectives while my commander is popped out of the cupola

no.

i WILL climb that steep hill and fire from the top of it alone or die trying dammit! :skull:

but a bit more seriously, i uh, i tend to accidentally flatten allied forces when they crowd too much around me.

Bruh your in a tank vs mostly infanty. Why the hell do you need more protection?

It is so easy to farm kills and stay safe in a tank with some situational awareness.

If anything we need less tank spammers in this game and more people PTFO

It’s so I can use my tank as a battering ram and not be shot in the back as I’m pushing forward.

yes because tanks should be able to run down infantry lol

The Stewart in the Puma can easily do it
