Having some fun with Italians

My Axis sides do not get much love from me - just the occasional game where a BP task is to play 1 or 2 games with them is about all.

But I’m at the top level for all the allies & they’re getting a bit boring at times, so I thought I’d give the Italians a bit more attention - what with them being a little different from cut 'n paste nazis …
or at least there’s some different troops and equipment for them.

And it’s been quite a bit of fun

I think it is due to:

  • Starting at a low level the progression has been a bit faster than the last few top levels for the allies;
  • The equipment is a bit different - not better, jsut gives a different experience - TBH I like the sights on their starter rifle better than any other sights in the game!!
  • and…er… … no nothing else

The maps and missions still suck but my win % as axis in Tunisia has gone from 17% to 27% - it only takes a couple of wins at that low level to get a good boost

If you ask me the beginning of any campaign is the best

I don’t honestly understand why people hate on the missions and maps in tunisia. I love the mix of open desert and multi story, multi room buildings all over the place. The interiors are also super well detailed, which I appreciate.

I like Tunesia as well. The Italians have nice rifles (the scoped one is sick!), the worst lmg of ww2 (and ingame) and aweful tanks (which work quite well).
And not to forget: Tunesia is the only campaign with the shovel!

For me it is the silliness of the campaign rubbing off on everything about it - the wrong tanks, planes, uniforms, equipment - even more so than the other massive screwups in all the other campaigns - all those have an detrimental effect on everything else about the campaign.

Sure the buildings are nice and bright and breezy - but there’s no weather - it wasn’t always like that - basically it is the very least realistic campaign in a series of 4 rather poorly written campaigns.

Plus it is where they introduced the 2nd worst scenario of the whole game - “Destruction” - an abomination of a game that I’m “this close” to just quitting every time I get it.

Only one worse is the armoured train, which I did quit every time - and which I stopped playing Berlin because of.

See, this is where being largely ignorant of the details is blissful. I can be vaguely aware that some of the stuff is maybe not quite right, like the fact that the armaguerra was never produced in substantial numbers, and was for sure not a mainstay of italian arms, but I don’t really have a great concept of what it should be, so it doesn’t bug me.

To be clear, I don’t think its wrong to be bothered by those things. Enlisted presents itself as being somewhat more grounded then most WW2 games, and lots of little problems can add up. I just find the difference on perspective interesting.

Also, I don’t think destruction deserves so much disdain. It has its quirks, mainly that it can be really brutal for the attackers at times, and grenade spam on the target is overly effective, but the uncertainty on the exact timing, and the abundance of close moments that you don’t really get in invasion, make it still pretty fun IMHO.

Well to me I love these game modes very much.
