Besides it being beta, giving the option of choosing game types and maps would fragment the player base and increase que times.
War Thunder does this because they have been out now for several years and have a much larger player base.
I don’t think allowing players to skip content would be feasible right now, maybe later if the game survives…
squad lock is only appropriate if players are able to choose the modes they want to play, because then the argument can be made “you left a game early that you said you wanted to play”
squad lock without mode choice is overly harsh. a significant chunk of players dislike conquest and forcing someone to play a mode they don’t want to play, then punishing them for exercising their choice to not participate when they are not able to opt-out of the mode in advance is bad game design, and will not help long term player retention.
the analogy from War Thunder would be forcing a Ground Forces Realistic player to play Air Arcade battles. if they want to play certain modes they shouldn’t be forced to play other modes they don’t want to play.
Hear that argument alot, even in warthunder, and I think you will find the majority of people would rather wait a little longer to get a game mode they want to play, or to avoid the excessive uptiering (warthunder).
If people can’t play what they want, they will stop. I myself have played the game enough to know the map rotation. I stop playing when it’s conquest and play something else. Most of the time I get to play, it’s conquest rotation, so I end up not playing enlisted, which is a shame because I love invasion.
