Germany BR 2 "Bolt Action" Rifle: V-G HIW

Volkssturm-RepetierGewehr

Hey all! I made this post presuming this weapon functioned as a blow-forward semi-automatic, but it is more like a pseudo bolt-action (thanks to @_DELAVR for the correction!). It could still make for an intersting addition to the game, possibly as an even or premium weapon. Original suggestion in the blockquote!

This is a Volkssturm gewehr designed by August Coenders for the Hessische Industrie Werke company. It uses a blow-forward mechanism to cycle the weapon semi-automatically. The weapon is chambered in 7.92x57mm (top) or 7.92x33mm (bottom).

To contend with the Fedorov M1912, I believe the 7.92x57mm variant of this weapon could be added for the Axis tree. Give this weapon 15.3 damage, and 350 rate of fire, but it does not have means to mount a bayonet.

You’re welcome!

I believe it’s been shared before in a suggestion, but it only had the picture without any context or specification.

Only the 7.92x33 version was semi-automatic :disappointed_relieved:.

In theory, there was also a ZH 29 with a 5-round magazine.

I tried to look for a source outside of what I have that agrees with your statement. What is your source? I want to make sure I’m not spreading misinformation.

These images show the same rifle, but with a much better view of the action. What is the purpose of the spring in front if the weapon is operated by hand?

The weapon had partial self unlocking. As far as I can understand, after the shot the bolt is in the extreme rear position, and the fighter only needs to push the handle forward as far as it will go.

For example, PTRD has this.

Collector’s Grade books are treasure troves of information! Could you please share the specific excerpt describing the weapon’s function?

Essentially, the spring is just to dampen the barrel as it hits the front of the stock? It isn’t necessarily for cycling the weapon? I guess in that context, it would act more like a “straight pull” rifle if added to the game?

Most likely, the spring is only needed to unlock the bolt after firing, as in the PTRD.

very simplified manual action where the barrel and its external handle are moved by the operator to chamber and extract; no conventional separate bolt. Fixed internal magazine, loaded with stripper clips.

Best explanation could find, after firing the barrel is pulled back extracting previous cartridge.
So “all” you need to do is push the bolt+barrel combination back and pull the trigger.

Somekind of odd duckling semi-BA

It could function like the Mannlicher 95 where its classified as a bolt action but doesnt need to zoom in and out between shots only wait for the bolt pull before firing again.
